1973 Theme
'Building Bridges
of
Communication"
The 90th Homecoming celebration
at Stetson University has been
scheduled for February 23-24, 1973
on the campus of the school in
DeLand. The theme for 1973 is
"Building Bridges of
Communication."
Co-chairmen Kristie Taylor of
Vero Beach and Bob Zahra of
Summer Haven will greet the grads
and friends of Florida's oldest
private college and guide them
through a two day program filled
with banquets, athletic events and
climaxed by the Annual
Homecoming Dance.
Activities get under way on
Friday, February 23, at noon with
luncheons by the Alumni Board of
Directors and the Music School
Board of Advisors.
Former members of the varsity
baseball team will suit-up at 3 p.m.
for a fast game with the 1973 Hatter
nine.
The English Department of Stetson
will hold a reception at 5 p.m.
honoring Dr. Byron Gibson and Mrs.
Virginia Giffin, both retiring after
many years on the faculty.
Dinners sponsored by the School
of Business Administration, School
of Music, Education Department and
Ministerial Association will be held
at 6:30 p.m. with special speakers or
entertainment scheduled for
each affair.
The Stetson University
Orchestra will present a concert
for alumni and friends at 8:30 p.m.
in the Elizabeth Hall auditorium.
Following the concert, the
musical tempo will quicken with
the opening strains of the
Homecoming Ball scheduled for the
Americano Beach Lodge in
Daytona Beach.
The annual business session of
the Stetson Alumni Association will
convene in the Elizabeth Hall
auditorium at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, February 24. Frank Ford,
alumni president, will preside at the
meeting which will include
presentation of alumni awards and
twenty-five year diplomas.
Luncheon on Saturday will depart
of the usual and is planned as an
old fashioned Bar-b-que slated for
the campus area near Emily Hall.
The traditional President's
Reception will be held at 3 p.m.
with Dr. and Mrs. Johns receiving
visitors at their home on campus.
Alums disdaining the speed of
baseball will have an opportunity
on Saturday afternoon to test their
skills on the diamond during the
Alumni-Intra-mural All-star softball
game.
A motorcade will depart the
DeLand campus at 6:45 p.m.
motoring to the Winter Park High
School gym for an 8 p.m.
encounter between the Hatter
basketball team and the
Mountaineers of Marshall
University.
Lee Rowell, director of Alumni
Affairs, has guided the Homecoming
Committee in planning what many
have described as the "best in
nine decades."
Rowell has urged that all planning
to attend make reservations for
housing as early as possible.

Homecoming Committee
Kristie Taylor, junior from Vero
Beach, and Bob Zahra, sophomore
from Summer Haven, will serve as
Co-chairmen for the 90th
Homecoming celebration at Stetson
University.
Members of the Homecoming
Committee were appointed by the
two elected chairmen and include
sub-committee chairmen: Susan
Osgood, Reservations & Registration;
Dave Shaw and Tom Cason,
publicity; Homecoming dance, Val
Marshall.
Kristie Taylor is Warden of Alpha
Chi Omega sorority and Sigma Pi
Kappa, Journalism honorary. She
has served on the staff of the
campus newspaper — the Reporter
and on the Student Union Board
publicity committee. She is a
member of the Young Republican
Club on campus. Miss Taylor is
majoring in English.
Bob Zahra is a sophomore
majoring in English. He is a member
of Pix Kappa Phi fraternity and served
on the Stetson Orientation
Committee.
Lee Rowell, director of Alumni
Affairs, is serving as advisor to the
planning committee.
