DR. AND MRS. ALLEN LEAVE
FOR TEXAS
Dr. W. S. Allen, President-emeritus of the
University, left DeLand on October 31. Slipping
away quietly to avoid the strain of farewells, Dr.
and Mrs. Allen left by auto for San Antonio,
Texas, where they will spend the winter, hoping
to return later to make their home somewhere in
central Florida. Their address in Texas is: Route
8, Box 301-A, San Antonio. Dr. Allen, who is a
native of Texas, has a sister in San Antonio.
Just before their departure, a committee of students headed by Fred Dickinson, president of the
Student Body Association, presented Dr. Allen
with a handsome wrist watch bearing the inscription, "Pres. Allen, from Student Body, 1947."

ABOUT THE HOMECOMING PROGRAM
The Camera and Art Clubs of the University
have been doing some very outstanding work in
their fields during the school term and are taking
this opportunity to show those who have gone
before them that student exhibitions follow the
high standards established by the former students
The girls of Chaudoin Hall proudly open the
doors of their school home to returning former
students. The north wing of the dormitory has
been completely refinished and is classed with the
new Stetson Hall as preferred rooming for girls.
The Homecoming Play, "Tralawny of the
Wells," is the story of a young girl, Tralawny, in
old England. "The Wells" is not a place of
history or a drinking fountain, but a theatrical
company that carries Tralawney to her experiences. The play, by Pinero, is in costume and for
many years was a favorite of traveling companies.
Customarily, the Stover Little Theatre will reserve choice seats for alumni and former students
provided notice is received in advance of the night
the alumni wish to attend. The tickets for former
students are complementary, excluding tax, and
may be picked up at the ticket window the night
of the play or in advance. The play is being presented Friday and Saturday nights for the benefit
of those who will not be able to remain in De-
Land more than one night.
Theta Alpha Phi, honorary dramatic fraternity,
will have their annual alumni party at the
Women's Club building, just off the Boulevard
on West Michigan Avenue. This affair proved
to be one of the best received events of last year's
Homecoming program, and the members of the
active chapter promise their alumni that "Stetson's Banner Year" is also one for Theta Alpha
Phi.
The program for Saturday, November 15, begins with the customary breakfasts. The Student
Bar Association cordially invites all former students of the College of Law to attend the Law
Breakfast being held at the Chamber of Commerce Building, West New York Avenue at
Florida. A very outstanding program has been
prepared with guest speakers and a very "outspoken" Master of Ceremonies. If you plan to

UNIVERSITY GETS STATION AREA
Stetson University has acquired from War
Assets Administration for nominal consideration,
a portion of the DeLand Naval Air Station for
additional classrooms, physical education and
living quarters for students and college officials.
The 120 acres of land will be utilized for athletic activities and will provide space for expansion of the school. The dormitories are expected
to house three to four hundred students. The
College of Law already occupies the former athletic building.
T. H. Farr, Purchasing Agent and Business
Manager of the school, estimates that the addition to facilities will require an increase of 100
employees on. the payroll. , n|«
The six buildings included in the transfer, all
of wooden construction, are: Link Trainer, two
officers' quarters, recreation hall and two dormitories.
Appraised fair value of the real and personal
property has been set at $218,116.
The transfer of this property to the school is
the culmination of efforts begun by President-
emeritus W. S. Allen and completed by T. H.
Farr during the illness of Dr. Allen.
