DR. W S. ALLEN TO ATTEND
WORLD ALLIANCE
Trustees of the University, at their annual
meeting on February 20, unanimously voted to
send President and Mrs. W. S. Allen to the
meeting of the Baptist World Alliance in Copenhagen, Denmark, next July.
Dr. Allen said after the meeting, "This came
as a complete surprise to us, and both Mrs- Allen
and I deeply appreciate the great honor paid us
by the trustees, and look forward with much
anticipation to availing ourselves of this fine
privilege and opportunity-"
J. P. Simmons, president of the Association,
was present at the meeting by invitation of the
Board of Trustees. The trustees and Mr. Simmons, speaking for the alumni, mutually pledged
a closer relationship between the Alumni Association and the University. To this end, the trustees voted to invite the President and the Immediate Past President of the Associationto sit
in on the regular meetings of the Board. Simmons'
presented a resolution from the Board of Governors of the Association, requesting that the
Board of Trustees provide a means whereby the
President and Immediate Past President of the
Association may become active members of the
Board while President and Immediate Past President respectively. F. N. K. Bailey, president of
the Board, appointed a committee consisting of
Simmons, Dr. Allen and J. Ollie Edmunds to
recommend a method of effecting the change
without resorting to changing the Charter of the
University which would require legislation.
A special tribute was paid to the memory of
the late Dean Emeritus G. Prentice Carson whose
death July 18, 1946, saddened the entire University family- An approriate resolution was also
presented by Judge Edmunds and adopted by the
Board, honoring the memory of Lieut. General
Roy S. Geiger, USMC, whose death occured in
January, 1947. Geiger was a member of the Law
Class of 1907.
Col. Bailey stated at the close of the meeting
that the session had been marked by complete
harmony and unanimity and a spirit of hopefulness and enthusiasm.
ALUMNI OFFICE STAFF INCREASED
On March 24 Miss Adeline Bradford, an undergraduate from Tifton, Ga., became affiliated with the Alumni Office. Miss Bradford is

a major in Secretarial Science and will continue
with a part-time course in the School of Business.
Mrs. Mildred Detty Snellings, '46, has been
appointed to be Assistant to the Alumni Secretary upon the resignation of Miss Edna Garrett
who is returning to her home in Pensacola.
It is expected that, with the increased secretarial help, the Executive Secretary will be allowed more time in various parts of the State
organizing local chapters and meeting with the
various groups-
ADDITION TO LAW SCHOOL FACULTY
IN FALL
An addition to the faculty of the College of
Law in the fall will be J. William Norman, instructor in law, it was announced by Dr. Allen
last week. The new instructor is the son of Dr.
J. W. Norman, Dean of the Summer School and
Professor of Education at the University of
Florida.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Norman is now at Harvard where he plans to complete work for his Master's degree this summer.
Prof. Norman is married to Nancy Rossiter,
Ba'42.
