STUDENTS CAMPAIGN FOR SWIMMING POOL
At the right is pictured a swimming instruction
class at DeLeon Springs under a member of the
staff of the Athletic Department. All members of
the swimming and life saving classes journey to
the Springs twice each week for their instruction
and pay admission prices for the privilege of
studying their chosen subjects.
As far back as 1936 the Women's Physical
Education Department foresaw the importance
of a swimming pool at Stetson and started a
campaign for funds. A thousand dollars was
raised by the department over a period of five
years by giving horse shows, carnivals, dance
pageants, and obtaining a few donations from
interested friends.
In 1941 the Student Body Association of the
University took over the project and made it the
number one must on their list. A swimming pool
committee has, on several occasions, approached
the administration for aid in the campaign and
now are appealing to the alumni and former students. Stetson is the only accredited institution
of higher learning in the state that does not have
swimming facilities on campus. The plans for
an indoor pool call for construction in such a
manner that it would be first floor of a Student
Union building unless money for the entire unit
is made available.
During the first week in May, the student
swimming pool committee held a tag day in which
they raised $85.00 toward the pool. Next year
they plan to repeat the tag day, raise the student
activity fee fifty cents to apply toward the pool,
and a door-to-door canvass of DeLand.
The faculty of the Women's Physical Education Department and the student body have
worked and plugged for Stetson's greatest need
—an enclosed swimming pool. They know they
cannot do it by themselves and are appealing direct to the former students to help them. If you
wish to assist in this campaign send your checks
to the Alumni Association, ear-marked for the
swimming pool fund and the Alumni Office will
see that they are delivered to the proper persons.

ASSOCIATION TO FETE SENIORS
The Alumni Association, in its first step
toward student interest programs and indoctrination, will be host for the graduating class at a
formal dinner to be given during Commencement
week-end.
At the last meeting of the Board of Governors
in Orlando on February 8, a motion was adopted
to begin a program whereby undergraduates are
introduced to the methods and purposes of the
Association so that a continued interest will be
maintained after graduation. The Senior Dinner
is the first step in that direction.
In accordance with the desires of the Class of
1947, the Executive Secretary has set the date of
the dinner as Saturday, May 31 at 5:30 P. M.
in the University Commons. It is expected that
the officers and members of the Board of Governors of the Association willbe present and that a
meeting of the Board will be held followili^ the
dinner.
