Construction Begins:
School of Music will Occupy
Theodore Presser Hall in Autumn
Construction on Stetson University's $1 million School of Music began
the first week of December, according to President Paul F. Geren. The base
construction contract of $860,000 has been awarded to Oldaker Construction
Co., Inc. of Ormond Beach. Furnishings for the three story building will cost
an additional $170,000.
More than 37,000 square feet of
space will be utilized in the new
building with 37 practice rooms, five
classrooms, four rehearsal rooms, a
music library, 16 faculty studios,
and administrative offices. The site
is located just south of Elizabeth
Hall on North Woodland Boulevard.
"Never has a better music school
waited longer for a more deserved
building," President Geren said in
making the announcement. "We all
rejoice that Dean Paul Langston, his
fine faculty, and students, will be
making joyful Stetson music in Theodore Presser Hall by September 27,
1969."

Dr. John Johns
Vice President
Green Feather Nets Charity Funds
Stetson University's Green Feather Drive, highly successful again this year,
will make contributions of $3,600 to fourteen charities and worthy organizations represented in Volusia County, according to co-chairmen Janet Mc-
Cullough and John Swann.
Through the Green Feather campaign Stetson's faculty and staff also contributed over $1,443 to the United Fund of West Volusia. Dr. Ann Morris and
H. Graves Edmonson, Jr.. were co-
chairmen for faculty and staff contributions.
The Green Feather student committee designated six charitable or-
ganizat'ons as recipients of $300
each. They are the Evergreen Day
School, Duvall Children's Home, U-
SO, Volusia County T.B. and Health
Association, Volusia County Mental
Health Fund, and the Stetson Community Fund.
Slated to receive $225 each are
Aid to Lukemia-Stricken American
Children, the Florida Sheriffs Boys

Dr. John E. Johns was elected
Vice-President for Planning and Finance of Stetson University by the
Board of Trustees, Vice-Chairman
Ralph H. Ferrell announced at the
Fall Trustees meeting. Dr. Johns
was nominated for the post by President Paul F. Geren.
In addition to his broad responsibilities in finances, plant facilities,
and administrative services, Dr.
Johns will be the second ranking
administrative officer of the University.
A distinguished educator, businessman, civic leader, and churchman, he is the son of Dr. and Mrs.
T. M. Johns, superintendents of the
Florida Baptist Children's Home in
Lakeland. .
He was born in Ozark, Alabama,

$25,000 Naval Research Grant Made
A $25,000 research contract has
been awarded to the department of
psychology by the U.S. Office of
Naval Research, according to President Paul F. Geren.
Under the terms of the contract
the University agrees to do research
for the Naval Training Device Center in Orlando. Th's is the third
such grant received by the University in the last two years, bringing
the total contract funds to $44,392.
Dr. Jack Rollins, chairman of the
psychology department, serves as the
University scientific officer and Dr.
Ronald Wiley, assistant professor of
psychology, is the project supervisor.
Research contracts enable Stetson
students to work in simulation procedures, to determine better methods
of training for the Navy's program,
and to receive stipends.
