President Edmunds Resigns
"Every day new challenges and new opportunities continue to confront our nation; many
of these vitally affect all American higher education. If Stetson University is to accept her
share of these challenges, she must have administrative leadership that can devote uninterrupted attention to every available opportunity
of service and all sources of support. Unfortunately, I cannot continue to offer that sort of
aggressive leadership. "
With these words, Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds announced his resignation as president of Stetson
University to the Board of Trustees in annual
session Friday, February 19, and to the faculty and administration at a banquet that evening.
Two decades of unyielding dedication toward
fulfilling the goal of Stetson's founders -- "to
provide collegiate training equal in breadth and
thoroughness to the best in our country" -- terminated with this announcement.
The Trustees, in accepting the resignation
with much regret, unanimously extended to Dr.

STETSON TRUSTEES, during their February meeting in DeLand, took an inspection
tour of the new buildings on campus. Dr. T. W.

Edmunds deep and heartfelt appreciation for the
dedicated service he has rendered to the University during the 20 years he has served as
president.
In action that followed the acceptance of Dr.
Edmunds' resignation, the Board unanimously
voted to activate the position of Chancellor of
the University. It was also their unanimous
vote that Dr. Edmunds should fill this post effective upon the termination of his duties as
president.
As Chancellor of the University, Dr.
Edmunds would be responsible for promoting
and fostering the best interests of the University in Florida and throughout the United Statea
He would also serve in such additional responsibilities as assigned to him by the Board and
the new President.
