Stetson Receives Challenge Gift
A $25, 000 unrestricted gift has been offered
to Stetson by an alumnus who prefers to remain
anonymous. To claim this gift, other alumni,
parents and friends of the University must contribute an additional $50, 000 by May 31.
Stetson President J. Ollie Edmunds, in
announcing the gift to the Board of Trustees
January 12, stated, "this valuable gift from a
Stetson alumnus and the accompanying challenge
comes at a time when the need for additional
operating funds couldn't be more apparent.
In making his gift to the University, the donor commented, "I count the years I spent at
Stetson the most rewarding ones of my life. I
appreciate this opportunity to do something in
return for Stetson, and I have a feeling that
many of the University's friends would like to
do the same. "
Harry Gaylord, representing the more than
15, 000 Stetson alumni as president of the
Alumni Association, has pledged the support
of this group in meeting the challenge.
Under Gaylord's guidance, the alumni and
development offices at Stetson are planning
a series of meetings to take place throughout Florida and all along the Eastern seaboard. All alumni, parents and friends of
the University are urged to attend the meetings in their area and assist in whatever
way possible in raising the $50, 000 needed
to meet the challenge.
Future issues of this publication will contain up-to-date reports of progress made in
raising the $50, 000. It is the opinion of Mr.
Gaylord that "we should be able to double
that required to meet the challenge by the
May 31 deadline."
JARRARD IS NEW TRUSTEE
Wendell Jarrard, business and civic leader, has been elected to the Board of Trustees
of Stetson University. The announcement was
made by Doyle E. Carlton, president of the
Board, following the January 12 meeting in
DeLand.
The new trustee, who is president and
chairman of the board of the DeLand State
Bank, has served Stetson several years as
a member of the Development Council. He
is a former chairman of the Florida Development Commission.
