"The Roaring '20s" will be the
theme for the 1961 Homecoming
celebration set for February 17, 18,
and 19, and Stetson University
classes of the '20s (1920-1930) will
be honored.
The annual three-day event features reunions and open houses, a
Stover Theatre presentation, a Roaring '20s parade with antique cars, a
Hi-Hat basketball game, and music
by the University Concert Choir, the
Stetson Band, and the Billy May orchestra.
University students will select a
Homecoming Mayor and a Hostess
to reign over Homecoming activities. Student co-chairmen for the
event are Robin Dashiell, junior
from DeLand, and Ed L'Heureux,
senior from Winter Park.
Homecoming officially opens Friday
afternoon with registration at 1:00. An art
exhibit sponsored by the University art
department and featuring serigraphs from
the Western Serigraph Institute opens in
the Stetson Union at 3:00.
A Golden anniversary reunion for members of the class of 1911, and a Silver
anniversary reunion for the class of 1936
are planned for 4:30.
An Alumni Banquet is scheduled for
6:00 p.m. on Friday, with the principal
speaker being Jim Golden, manager of
Ford Motor Company's regional office of
civic and governmental affairs. Prior to
joining Ford, Golden was administrative
assistant to Sen. Spessard Holland and
later a legislative attorney in the office
of the Secretary of the Air Force. He received his B.S. from Stetson in 1942.
The Stover Theatre's production of
Shakespeare's "The Tempest" will be presented beginning on Thursday night with
performances also scheduled on Friday and
Saturday nights. Fraternities hold open
houses from 9:00 to 11:00 Friday night
