LANDSCAPING BEGINS FOR NEW STUDENT UNION BUILDING TO BE READY FOR FALL SEMESTER
ALUMNI INVITED TO CAMPUS
FOR FOUNDERS WEEK PROGRAM
Homecoming, for many years an event of the fall season, has
been scheduled for February 20, 21 and 22 as Founders Day Weekend. It will be the first major event in 1958, the 75th year of the
founding of the University.
The expanded homecoming program is designed to attract for
the entire weekend, trustees, parents, and friends of the University
as well as alumni. It will have as its features the dedication of the
new million-and-a-quarter dollar Student Union Building and
special honor to Dr. Irving C. Stover, professor of speech, who will
be in his 50th consecutive year as a teacher at Stetson.
The opening day's events include the annual meeting of the
Board of Trustees, the Student Leadership Banquet sponsored by
Omicron Delta Kappa and The Honor, and the Stover Theatre
production of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." The play-
also will be given Friday and Saturday nights.
The Friday program will open with meetings of the President's
Board of Alumni Counselors and continue with meetings of the
Stetson Council, with Walter L. Hays, president, presiding, and the
Stetson Associates, with Dr. Caleb J. King, president, conducting
the session.
During the morning, parents will attend classes with the students
and professors will give lectures appropriate for such groups. In
the afternoon there will be a symposium or panel discussion with
members of the faculty and students in Stetson's Honors Program
participating.
'lhe annual meeting of the Stetson Alumni Association will be
held Friday afternoon and a new president-elect will be chosen.
James Y. Arnold. Jr., of West Palm Beach, will succeed H. Russell
Brown as president of the alumni association.
The alumni counselors will convene at dinner Friday night to
hear Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds tell of future plans for Stetson.
Lawyers, ministers, teachers and music grads will meet for breakfast on Saturday. Flic parade through the downtown area will
start at 10 a.m. Saturday. Dedication of the Student Union Building, followed by a tour of the facility, will be at 11:30 a.m. rounding out a full morning of events.
The Homecoming luncheon, with the tables arranged for class
groups will be served at noon in the Student Union Building and
the roll call by classes will be made. This roll call formerly was a
feature of the alumni convocation on the fall program.
A concert by the Stetson University Band, at which time alumni
members of the band return to play with the Green and White
