STETSON OPENS
FALL TERM WITH
ENROLLMENT GAIN
Stetson University enrollment for
the fall term showed a gain of 20 per
cent over a year ago and the total of
approximately 1,650 was the largest
since the influx of veterans in 1949.
Last year 1,388 students enrolled.
The new freshman class was up 25
per cent and was about evenly divided
between men and women.
Enrollment at the College of Law
in St. Petersburg was 136, a 40 per
cent gain over last year.
Enrollment records were set at the
University of Florida with 10,852,
Florida State University with 6,323,
University of Miami with 11,941, University of Tampa, 1,347, Florida
Southern, 1,600, and Florida A & M,
2,500. Rollins does not announce total
enrollment.
The enrollment increases were in
keeping with Florida business which
showed sharp increases in the first six
months of 1955, according to Department of Commerce reports.

Hatter Grid Squad
The Hatter victory over Troy State
in the DeLand Municipal Stadium had
a very special meaning for at least two
persons in the stands and two on the
field of play.
When Freshman Walter Mosley took
his halfback position with the starting
Hatter eleven, his father and mother,
Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Mosley, of Belle
Glade, bubbled with a parental pride
that was noticeable in the section of the
stands where they were seated.
Receiving the kickoff, the Hatters
marched 61 yards in a sustained ground
drive to the one yard line. Quarterback
Dick Saltrick called young Mosley's
signal and he went the remaining distance to score.
This performance not only thrilled
Mr. and Mrs. Mosley but justified the
confidence that Head Coach Herb McQuillan had in the lad.
In the calm between the touchdown
and the try for point, Coach McQuillan
recalled his 1930 Stetson Hatter team
and the section in the yearbook which
said "Win" Mosley "can always be depended on to make the few yards that
count when they are most needed. He
has a sixth sense that always leads him
to the right hole on line bucks, and
where the play is coming when he is on
the defense."
"A chip off the old block," McQuillan
mused.
1955 HOMECOMING
PROGRAM INCLUDES
EVENTS FOR ALL
Homecoming will be observed this
year on November 18, 19, and 20 with
a gala program of events for returning
alumni and friends of the University.
From the time registration starts at
11 a.m. Friday, November 18, until the
Sunday services in all DeLand churches
there will be events patterned to engage the interst of all campus visitors.
Stetson Associates, representative
men and women who, although they did
not attend Stetson, have identified
themselves with the University and are
supporting it both morally and financially, and members of The Stetson University Council, an auxiliary board of
distinguished business and professional
leaders in Florida, organized to cooperate with the President and the Board
of Trustees in planning and furthering
the University's future development,
also are being invited to the campus for
Homecoming.
Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds, president of
the university, is scheduled to bring a
"state of the University" message be-
