Proxy Endowment
Campaign Gets
Early Start
The 1954 proxy endowment campaign
of United Stetson Alumni is off to a
good start, according to G. E. "Eddie"
Gilliland, director of alumni affairs
and director of development.
This will be the first year of the
campaign under Gilliland as he was
named to the two important positions
just before Homecoming last year.
"We need proxy endowment pledges
from every one of the 831 who subscribed in 1953," Gilliland said, "and
as many new subscribers as we had
last year if Stetson is to receive the
support deserved from the alumni."
"I urge each and every one of our
alumni to subscribe early so that our
goal may be reached by Homecoming
time."
Final tabulation of the 1953 United
Stetson Alumni campaign shows that
831 subscribers, 119 more than in 1952,
stood proxy for endowment of $736,-
265.00 an increase of $178,345 over last
year.
Standing proxy for this amount of
endowment means that $36,813.25 was
pledged in 1953 against $27,896.00 the
previous year.
In 1953, 412 alumni subscribed foi
the first time and 419 charter members
pledged again.
In listing the charter members in the
last issue of Stetson Letter, the name
of Miss Ethel A. Rumney, '20, AB, of
309 N. Main Street, Sandwich, 111., was
omitted through error. She was one of
those subscribing again in the 1953
campaign.

the USA fund after Homecoming and
a complete report of subscribers by
classes, will be found on other pages
of this issue.

WHAT? College emphasis night tor Training Unions.
WHY? TO KNOW then TO GO to THEIR OWN!
In this first church-wide "College Orientation Workshop"—Youth
in each church will think and counsel about their future and learn how
rich are the college and professional opportunities on Baptist Campuses.
Many Baptist youth now attending overcrowded state institutions
did not know that their own denominational colleges provided opportunities of the very highest quality, AND in a happy, friendly Christian
atmosphere.
Hence—TO KNOW then TO GO to their own!
The Southern Baptist Educational Commission through its Nashville
offices has prepared a significant program with necessary literature so
that each Training Union member may have College Orientation on
Thursday evening of Youth Week. This probably will be made an annual
event.
STETSON ALUMNI AND FORMER STUDENTS ARE URGED TO
ATTEND THIS MEETING IN YOUR TOWN. 'PHONE THE PASTOR.
In every town in Florida there are Stetson men and women, as well
as in hundreds of towns in other states. You are urged to attend—to
encourage the young people by your presence—and to represent your
University. You may meet some of these youth and can say a stimulating
word. No obligations of any kind—just a chance to encourage some young
folks to steer a wise course.
The Admissions Office will mail to you, as requested, white ribbon
badge with Stetson printed on it in green, so "you all" can wear your
colors!
1954 Year of Building At Stetson
The year 1954 promises to be one of
building for Stetson University.
Early in December, the University
purchased the property constructed as
a resort hotel in St. Petersburg and
afterward used by Florida Military
Academy and is now engaged in an
extensive program of refurbishing for
the opening in September of what is
planned as "One of America's Most
Interesting Law Schools."
