A Microsoft Certified Solution Provider, that is. Founder, president, and CEO of InteliNet Corp., Bell accepted the "Best Knowledge Management Solution Collaboration Award" on behalf of the entire corporation during the award ceremony at Microsoft's Fusion '99 annual business symposium. InteliNet was praised for its NOCNET 200 solution, an internet site developed for Cox Communications Inc.'s Network Operation Center. With the new intranet developed by InteliNet, information can be accessed by managers within a user-friendly Internet Explorer browser environment. Bell and partner Curt Clause founded InteliNet out of Bell's home in 1994. Located in Atlanta, InteliNet has grown to employ nearly 60 Atlanta-based employees. Annual musical tribute honors Geoffrey, Marjorie Gilbert Two former students of the late legendary flutist Geoffrey Gilbert performed during the annual Gilbert Birthday Recital in Stetson's century-old Elizabeth Hall Chapel last May. The program featured flutists Ellen Hinkle, '69, of Cary, N.C, and Deborah Heller. Former students have honored Gilbert and his wife, the late Marjorie Gilbert, each year by performing in recitals coordinated by flutist Jean West, a Stetson associate professor of music. "We celebrate their wonderful legacy. They touched the lives of countless students and friends, here in Florida and around the globe," West explained. The recitals began shortly after the death in 1989 of Gilbert, Stetson's professor of flute and orchestral studies from 1969 to 1979. He died just 10 days before his 75th birthday. Heller, who took summer master classes with Gilbert in the 1980s, is a solo piccoloist with the Jacksonville Symphony and teaches at the University of North Florida. Hinkle, a past president of the Florida Flute Association, taught at Stetson and Rollins College before moving to Raleigh, N.C, to teach at Campbell University. Gilbert and his wife Marjorie, who taught speech and drama at Stetson for 20 years, moved to DeLand in 1969 from England where Geoffrey Gilbert had established a world-renowned reputation as a flutist and teacher. Gilbert's most famous pupil was Irish flutist James Galway. The couple discovered DeLand in 1966 while Geoffrey Gilbert was performing in the area as principal flutist with the London Symphony Orchestra. He joined the Stetson faculty in 1969 as Kenan Professor of Flute. After he retired from the Stetson faculty in 1979, Gilbert continued his career by teaching master classes and performing throughout the world. Alumnus, dedicated trustee, Stetson friend dies at 89 Nationally known attorney and Stetson trustee emeritus, William Amory Underhill, died Sept. 7. He was 89. Underhill, who received his law degree from Stetson in 1936, was a Stetson trustee from 1977 to 1986, and served as a member of the College of Law Board of Overseers for more than 20 years. A long list of honors and awards given to Mr. Underhill during his lifetime included an honorary doctor of laws degree from Stetson's College of Law in 1969; a Stetson University Distinguished Alumni Award; an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Saint Leo College, 1980; the George Washington Honot Medal Awatd from Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, 1970; and the Murray Sams Family Foundation Award, 1983. Her great-grandson is freshman basketball player Ricky McConnell. She was also president of the student body in 1927, and received a special presentation of flowers at a Hatter basketball game. '33 Esther Bremer Beacom, Winter Park, was 101 on March 1, 1999. '48 Thomas J. Deen Jr., Istachatta, was selected Citizen of the Year in Hernando County. "I am proud to help start our Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation, which gives help to public school students," he said. Philip E. Enlow, Virginia Beach, Va., was appointed to the Board of Directors for NuOncology Labs Inc., a Florida corporation. He owns an international commodity brokerage and trading company and is executive vice- president of Kazakh-Paracure Inc., an international firm engaged in the development of anti-cancer compounds. '49 Thomas R. Horton, DeLand, was elected chairman of the board of the National Association of Corporate Directors, became a regular columnist for the magazine Directors & Boards, and serves on the International Board of Advisors to Who's Who. Ernest H. Jernigan, Ocala, authored two books titled, America and World: 1995-2015, and Florida: Past, Present, Future. Murray Sams Jr., Coral Gables, was honored by the Florida Bar Association at its annual meeting for practicing law in Florida for 50 years. '50 Hal S. Marchman Jr., Astoi; celebrated his SO111 birthday in April with his wife, Mary, '49, and with the congregation of the Central Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, during the dedication of its educational building, named the Hal and Mary Marchman Anniversaries A Betty Langston Deen, '48, and husband Thomas Jr., '48, celebrated their 51" wedding anniversary on Dec. 31, 1998. & Sarah Register Johnson, '49, and husband Joseph O., '47, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Jan. 2, 1999. 6 Elizabeth Jane Messersmith, '81 and husband Fred L., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 19, 1998. Richardson, DeLand, received the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University College of Aviation's highest award, the "Pioneer of Aviation Education" trophy and medallion, recognizing his 25 years of service to the study of aviation science at E-RAU. '56 Joy Vian Kirschner, Sherman, Texas, is development director for Living Water International in Houston. '57 Earl R. Williams Jr., Ormond Beach, retired as a music teacher from Tomoka Elementary School and as choir director at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church. '58 Joseph J. Master, Glenwood, received Stetson's distinguished service award for his many contributions to the university. 59 Gretchen Grau Marz, Port Orange, retired as choral director from Spruce Creek High School. Gary A. Meadows, DeLand, was promoted to associate vice-president for alumni relations at Stetson. Frank K. Painter Jr., Lawrenceville, Ga., is a development director for Cafe 458/ Samaritan House in Atlanta. '61 Gwendolyn Bristow Williams, Ormond Beach, retired from Tomoka Elementary School as a music teacher and also from choir directing at the Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church. '62 Sarah Sartain Jane, Fort Myers, was promoted to the Fort Myers regional librarian position in 1998. '63 Diane M. Disney, Washington, D.C., received a distinguished alumni award in recognition of outstanding professional achievement. Conrad Nelson, Decatur, Ga., is an asset manager for Hatfield Philips Inc. in Atlanta. Robert E. Wood, Durell, N.C, was this year's participant in the Stetson Chemistry Department Distinguished Alumni Program. He is professor of pediatrics and director of the center for Pediatric Bronchology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
