FIRST COMMENCEMENT AT ST. PETERSBURG SET FOR MAY 2jfc»**
CLOSING EXERCISES AT DeLAND ON JUNE 5 AND 6
Three outstanding speakers have been chosen for commencement exercises in DeLand and St. Petersburg.
Warren L. Jones, of Jacksonville, Judge of the United
States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, will give the address
at the College of Law at 3 p. m., Saturday, May 28.
David H. Harshaw, Philadelphia, president of the John
B. Stetson Company, will give the address for the DeLand
commencement scheduled for 7 a. m., Monday, June 6 in the
Forest of Arden.
Vaughn M. Johnson, St. Petersburg, Pastor of the Fifth
Avenue Baptist Church, will give the Baccalureate Sermon.
This service will be in the Forest of Arden at 6:30 p. m.
Sunday, June 5.
The Senior Breakfast will be June 5 and the Commencement Concert of the School of Music will be the same afternoon.
The St. Petersburg commencement, the first on the new
campus of the College of Law, will be in Stetson Inn. It
will be followed by a reception in honor of the commencement speaker sponsored by the Florida Bar, St. Petersburg-
Bar Association, Tampa and Hillsborough County Bar
Association and the Manatee County Bar Association.
Diplomas will be presented at both commencements by
Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds, president of the University. In addition, he w'll honor graduates of the College of Law who have
been alumni for 50 years or more.
Judge Jones, an attorney in Jacksonville since 1925,
assumed the duties of his new office in the Federal Building
on May 6. Nominated to the Judgeship by President Eisenhower, Judge Jones, a Republican, received the support of
Florida Senators Smathers and Holland. He succeeded the
late Judge Louie W. Strum, a graduate of Stetson.
A native of Nebraska, Judge Jones received his law
degree from the University of Denver after serving in
World War 1.
In 1925, he joined the Jacksonville law firm of Fleming,
Hamilton, Diver, Lichliter & Fleming. In 1948 he became
the senior member of the firm, Fleming, Jones, Scott, and
