Reunion '96: Old formula of food + friends yields fun

Remember Residential Life's philosophy?
"Provide food at any event and they
will come."
So we began Reunion Weekend '96 with, of course, food -- a
barbecue, to be exact, complete with live music.
Classmates from the graduating classes of '46, '51, '56, '61,
'66, '11, '76, '81, '86, and '91 converged on the campus,
registering, reminiscing and reuniting. We first gathered in
Reunion Headquarters -- also known as the student lounge of
the CUB -- where copies of yearbook photos and class
memorabilia jump-started the memory brain cells. From class
headquarters, Hatters moved on to the campus barbecue and
joined former classmates at class tables, supping together once
again, while enjoying the sounds of a student jazz band and
meeting the new Hatter mascot.
The crowd then dispersed to cluster again at class parties,
most held at classmates' DeLand area homes, but others at old
haunts and stomping grounds. This provided a relaxed
atmosphere to fill each other in on the events of the last five
years.
After a Friday night of fun, Saturday morning brought class
meetings (Warning: the "younger" classes are assigned to the
third floor in Elizabeth Hall -- work-out time) where co-chairs
for the next Reunion were chosen and class songs and skits
were perfected.
