Sit anywhete you like in Elizabeth Hall Chapel, Class of 1961. Keep your clothes on, streakers of 1976. You're invited back to campus, April 26 -28 for Reunion Weekend 1996. Along with the Classes of'46, '61 and '76, the classes of 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1981, 1986, and 1991 will return to campus for a celebration of their Stetson experiences. "The weekend offers the best of both worlds for alumni," said Gary Meadows, '59 ('65MA), executive director of the alumni association. "They have time fot activities with theit classmates and time when they are all together, like the Reunion Celebration! (formerly known as Reunion Convocation)." Weekend activities include class patties, a golf tournament, children's activities, and the class dinners. Members of the Class of 1971 Davis takes gavel to lead alumni association Marty Davis, a 1980 business graduate, will lead the national alumni association for the next two years. Davis is a trial attorney with Davis & Wood in Miami, where he makes his home. He is a member of the Florida Bar and many professional and civic associations. He has served as a volunteer for the alumni and development offices for more than eight years, including his 1995 teftn as presidentelect of the alumni association. He has led the Alumni Fund and helped host alumni and prospective student events in south Florida. "Marty will continue ro provide the strong leadership we need to meet our association's objectives," said Gary Meadows, '56, executive directot of the alumni association. DeLoach and Murray Sams, '42L will receive their 25-year diplomas, while those who graduated in 1946 will receive theit 50- year diplomas. Reunion gifts will be presented during Reunion Celebration! Hatters came home for annual celebration The university welcomed home hundreds of alumni Jan. 26- 27, including author Deke DeLoach, members of the 1956-57 football team (the last Stetson football squad), and alumni board members who installed a new alumni association president, Marty Davis, '80. During the annual weekend celebration, the Alumni Association announced its 1996 awards. Leroy K. New, '42 and William J. Roberts, '53 ('57MA, '58 LLB) are the Distinguished Alumni awatd winners. Sandy '72, and John Furches '70, have been recognized with the Distinguished Service Award, and Charles Granger, '55, is the recipient of the Doyle Carlton Awatd. (See the Summer ProVeritate for complete details on these awatds.) A Fred Messersmith portrait of Etter Turner, '35, former dean of students, was unveiled during the Homecoming breakfast. Bunny Lane, '61, and fotmer dean of students and George Borders, '61 presented the gift to the university. The portrait hangs in DeLand Hall. A gift in memory of alumnus F.H. McDonald will fund a Sports Medicine Lab and two offices within it. An exercise Physiology Wellness Lab will be named in memory of alumnus Frank H. McDonald, Jr., '44. A weight and fitness training room will be named in memory of Dale Melching, '46; and a classroom near the weight room will be named in honor of Mrs. Hazel M. McDonald, widow of F. H. McDonald. Preliminary architectutal designs fot the Wilson Athletic Center, Hollis Centet and library addition and tenovation are progressing. Construction of the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center will begin in March and will be completed fot fall use. Alumni invited to swing into spring with events Ptactice your golf swing and tennis serve. Jacksonville area alumni will be hosting a tennis and golf tournament June 10 to raise money for scholarships for students from the greatet Jacksonville area. Other alumni events include a Tampa Jai Alai Charity Night on March 6. Proceeds from the last two years' events have added $5,250 to the A$$I$T scholarship fund. Roberts, one of the 1996 Distinguished Alumni Award winners, as the Tallahassee area alumni meet at the Florida Museum of History. A seminar on quality management will be given by Betty Thome, associate professor of decision and information sciences, on April 30.
