Hatters come home for '93 celebration
Alumni, old and young, enjoyed a weekend
of activities on the DeLand campus Jan. 22 -
24, encoutaged through the theme, "Don't
Say Goodbye," to preserve the environment
and their friendships.
The traditional activities of award
banquets, family picnic, music, theatre, and
sports were enjoyed by more than 400 alumni
and their families.
Distinguished Alumni Awards, recognizing
outstanding professional achievement, were
presented to Dennis McNamara, '44; Lee
McGraw Lewicki, '79; and Kermit Coble, '53.
An award also was presented posthumously to

For some of you, this may be the first time in
a long time that you have received the
Cupola. Three years ago the university,
because of financial concerns, cut the .
circulation of the Cupola and it is now sent to
those alumni who have made a gift to
university. Alumni who have graduated in
the last five years and those celebrating a
reunion also received three copies per year.
Cupola, the alumni newsletter of the
DeLand campus, is a mix of university news,
alumni association news, and the most
popular section — class notes. It takes only
a one-time gift to the alumni fund to stay on
the Cupola mailing list. If you've already
made a contribution, thank you. If you have
never given to the university in the past,
please make a gift now so that we may
continue to keep you in touch with yout
classmates, up-to-date onprofessors and other
university news.

The Distinguished Service Award,
recognizing those who have given outstanding service to the univetsity, was presented tc
Tom Prince, '67, and the Doyle E. Carlton
Award was presented to retired religion
professor Earl Joiner, '49, recognizing his
service to Stetson and higher education, the
City of DeLand, and the State of Flotida.

carry more on these award winners.)
Also honored were athletes Mike Wolfe,
'76, and Martin Ryczek, '74, who were
inducted into the Stetson Univetsity Sports
Hall of Fame.

Reunion Weekend set for April 16-18
Just imagine: lunch with your best friend from
college, sharing pictures of children or grandchildren, reminiscing about the fun dances
and socials. These are things alumni can look
forward to at Reunion '93.
Alumni in classes '43, '48, '53, '58, '63, '68,
'73, '78, '83, and '88 ate invited to return to
DeLand for a weekend of fun beginning with
a barbeque on Friday and ending with chapel
and brunch on Sunday. In between, alumni
can enjoy class patties hosted by DeLand area
friends, class skits, and the All-Alumni
Dance on Saturday evening.
"Class chairmen, gift chairmen, and their
committees have been doing an outstanding
job preparing for reunion," said Gary
Meadows, '56, executive director of the
alumni association.

Jan Latour, '78, selected president-elect of
Stetson University Alumni Association
Jan Bozard Latout, '78, a long-time member
of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, has been elected president-elect of the
national alumni gtoup and will take office in
January 1994.
Latour has served as chair of the alumni
association's District #8 (Sumter, Citrus,
Hemando, and Pasco counties) and was
instrumental in the creation of the ASSIST
alumni scholarship program.
Rod Hansen, '72, current president of the
alumni group, praises Latour's enthusiasm. "I
am excited about the opportunity to work
more closely with Jan. She is a dynamic,
energetic person who is a valuable asset to
the university."
Jan's husband, Eddie Latour, is also a
Stetson gtaduate, Class of '76 (B.A.), and
1979 (J.D.). "Both Jan and Eddie come from
families with many Stetson graduates," said
Gary Meadows. "We're very pleased to have
the commitment of this hatdworking,
organized individual."
Jan is congratulated try Rod Hansen and
Gary Meadows on accepting the nomination
to lead the alumni association.
