1982 Homecoming Game
Predicted a Sellout
The last time Marquette played
Stetson in DeLand the game was a sellout. In fact, it was the first time in
Hatter history that tickets were being
scalped. (By the way, Stetson won.)
The Warriors will return to DeLand
this season on March 6, to be cheered
to defeat by the Hatter Homecoming
crowd. Several hundred tickets have
been sold already, in addition to
regular season ticket sales.
Last season Marquette finished with
20 wins and went to their 20th
consecutive post-season tournament.
Hank Raymond will chalk up his 200th
college-coaching win this season,
probably before Christmas.
It all adds up to one of the most
exciting Homecoming basketball
games ever played at Stetson.

Carolina a few years ago?)

First L.A. Board Convenes
The Board of Visitors of the College
of Liberal Arts became a reality in
November when two dozen prominent
business and professional people
convened for the inaugural meeting in
the board room in DeLand Hall.
J. Hyatt Brown, Stetson trustee and
chairman of the Board of Visitors,
presided at the afternoon session,
which was highlighted by a visit and
speech by Florida Governor Bob
Graham.
Gov. Graham took the opportunity
to vigorously affirm his support for the
state's tuition voucher program and to
urge its continued funding. Under
Florida's plan, high school graduates
within the state who meet two-year
residency requirments receive $750
toward their tuition at any Florida
accredited private university or
college. The govenor cited the considerably higher costs to taxpayers to
subsidize students at public universities, estimated in excess of $4,000.
The new members of the advisory
board also heard a report from
President Pope A. Duncan on the
university and from Dean Bob Chauvin
on the College of Liberal Arts. Five
faculty members gave reports on
various divisions of the college.
The Board of Visitors will convene
regularly and will assist throughout
the year in promoting student
enrollment, assisting development
efforts and counseling about current
trends, as part of the continuing
efforts to maintain the college's
excellent standards.
Edyth Bush Foundation
Approves $50,000 Challenge
Stetson's 1981-82 Annual Fund drive received a big boost in October with
the announcement that the Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, Inc. of Winter
Park approved a $50,000 challenge grant to support the Annual Fund
program.
The foundation will match all new and increased alumni gifts to the Annual
Fund made between Oct. 1, 1981 and July 31, 1982, according to Dr. David
Roberts, president of the foundation.
"The purpose of the grant is to encourage increased alumni participation at
every level in the annual giving program," Dr. Roberts said. "The foundation
believes this will be a critical ingredient in the ultimate success of the
STETSON/$50,000,000 campaign."
"This represents another opportunity for Stetson's alumni," said Annual
Fund Chairman Nestor M. DeArmas, '73. "I am sure we will meet the
challenge."
DeArmas noted that all alumni should mail gifts during 1981, if possible.
"We want to meet the challenge early," he stated.
The Edyth Bush Foundation has been a significant contributor to a variety
of Stetson projects, including the renovation of Flagler Hall and DeLand Hall.
