Any university budget has an
interesting story. At Stetson, it has
grown into a big story as well. The
total budget for both the DeLand
and St. Petersburg campuses is over
$13 million for 1979-80.
Preparation of such a budget
represents a long process. Its
pre-history is represented by past
experience, but its construction
begins in earnest in September
before it goes into effect the next
June (our fiscal year is June 1 - May
31). In the process of planning, input
is sought and received from
departments, deans, directors, a
faculty committee and a student
committee, in addition, a faculty
meeting is devoted to discussion of
the implications of budget decisions.
By Thanksgiving most of the
in-house decisions have been made -
the level of tuition and fees, the
projected gifts and other income,
and the major details of
expenditures. The whole process
becomes one of seeking the best
balance in the use of limited funds.
Most of the really difficult decisions
ultimately have to be made by the
President.
After these tough decisions are
made, the Comptroller has to work
out the details of the budget, and the
completed, recommended document
is presented to the Budget

Celebration Planned Feb. 8-10
Parade Returns at Homecoming
Past Stetson homecomings have spawned many parades.
This year's celebration, Feb. 8-10, will include a Saturday
parade to boost festive spirits as onlookers watch the magic
and whimsy of imagination float down the parade route.
The university hosted a dinner for Presidential Counsellors in September,
honoring them for their continued interest in the growth and development of the
school and their financial support. Among the 60 guests attending the dinner were

clashes - the Hatter men's team
versus the Titans of Oral Roberts
University and the women's team
facing the Eagles of Georgia
Southern.
That's what Homecoming '80
offers returning alumni and
friends.
And more!
Much more, in fact, according to
Homecoming chairman Lorna
Jean Hagstrom, '64, who urges
alumni to return to campus for a
weekend packed with excitement
Feb. 8-10.
She explains this year's theme,
"Picture Yourself Back at Stetson,"
refers both to remembering the
years spent at the school and to
making plans to return for
Homecoming '80.
Tennis and golf tournaments are
lined up for Friday plus a vocal, pops
concert and a football reunion for
former players.
Reunion classes, whose graduation years end in either "0" or "5",
will be featured during a reunion
party in the Stetson Room of the
Carlton Union Building, following
the pops concert Friday evening.
Saturday's activities get off to an
early start with athletic, ministerial
and law breakfasts. The annual
alumni meeting is scheduled at
10:30 a.m. in Elizabeth Hall
Auditorium, followed by a barbecue
in the Forest of Arden.
Saturday afternoon plans include
a Homecoming parade to spark
excitement for a basketball evening
which features the Hatter women
against the Eagles at 5:30 and the
men against the Titans at 7:30 in the
Edmunds Center.
Sunday worship is planned at 8:45
a.m. before trips to Disney World,
Sea World and Circus World for
those interested in visiting area
attractions.
