Actor Nick Kroll to headline Stetson's Homecoming Austin Fuller Managing Editor Comedian Nick Kroll will headline Stetson's Homecoming on Nov. 8 at 8:30 p.m. in the Edmunds Center. Kroll stars in FXX's "The League," as well as in his own Comedy Central show, "Kroll Show." He has recurring roles on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," and Adult Swim's "Children's Hospital." "Students have really been interested in him because he's been in so many popular shows," Brooke Wick- ham, the vice president of marketing for Homecoming, said. "If students were to follow the comedy circuit, he would be one of the up and coming comedians that they watch." "We felt Nick Kroll was perfect because college students could really identify with him," Homecoming Chairman Robert Jones said, "Also, who doesn't like to laugh? A comedian, to us, had a much larger reach than a musical artist." Kroll is coming to campus through the "Comedy Central on Campus" tour. Daniele Mottier, the vice president of Homecoming, said that the process for finding this year's headlining act began last spring and that the student body and alumni association were consulted. "After considerable research, we found Kroll to be a dynamic, engaging comedian who brings great energy to an audience," Mottier said. "Kroll was selected to headline because we felt he provided 'the full :' of an entertainer." This year's homecoming, which will still feature past events such as the Thursday night Airwaves benefit event and the Friday night carnival and pep rally, will also include new events throughout the entire week. These include a bonfire scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4 and a student talent show called "Stetson's Got Talent," scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6. "Homecoming is now more than just an alumni weekend— it is a week of celebration meant to include the entire Stetson community," Mottier said. "The events were created to really show what is best about the Stetson campus," Jones said. "We didn't want groups to dominate the week. We wanted events in which any student could participate.These events are so important because they build our sense of community and they help create shared traditions we can look back on in the future." Mottier and Jones did not disclose the cost of Homecoming or of bringing Kroll to campus. "That information is completely confidential," Jones said. "The responsible and frugal management of the Homecoming budget is of the highest priority to the committee. We work diligently to ensure that each dollar invested is a positive return for the experience of the week. Nothing is wasted. With the help of staff advisors and Stetson's Finance Department, each expenditure is tracked and accounted for," Mottier said. Kroll's performance is free and no tickets will be required. With this victory, the Hatters were able to improve their record to 2-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the A-Sun and also recorded their first A-Sun victory of the season. This puts Stetson in a three-way tie for fifth in the A-Sun with Mercer and USC-Upstate with just three games left in the season. From the minute the game started, Stetson came out with the tenacity and aggressiveness needed to overcome rival Mercer in just 13 minutes. It was around the 13 minute mark that senior Chase Rodgers passed the ball to senior forward Evan Jimmo who fired a rocket at the goal. However, that shot was blocked by Mercer goalie Greg Ranjitsingh, but it rebounded back out into the box. It was at that same moment that defender Chase Rodgers, who passed Photos courtesy: gohatters.com the ball initially to Jimmo, was able to one-time the rebound off of the goalie into the net that gave Stetson the early lead over Mercer. Thanks to Rodgers' spectacular awareness on the field, he gave Stetson the only goal they needed to succeed over Mercer. In the first half, Stetson's defense kept Mercer off their side of the field for most of the half, as well as out of the net thanks to Schnabl's solid goal tending. In the first half, Stetson out shot Mercer 9-6, indicative of how well the defense played and how aggressive and dominant that offense played. However, when the second half rolled around the Hatters did not play as strong, defensively, as they had hoped they would. Mercer was able to come out in the second half and record 12 shots to Stetson's five. However, Schnabl was so on point last Sunday, recording an outrageous five saves in just the second half alone, that Mercer's efforts were all for naught. All in all, Stetson's victory over Mercer last Saturday was a defensive showdown. Even though the team has had a tough season and that season is rapidly coming to a close, Sunday they all showed that they have the fight and determination in them to win a game and keep the other team on their heels. Due to his outstanding efforts Sunday, Andreas Schnabl was name A-Sun Player of the Week. He also recorded his 15th career shutout and third of the season, as well as making eight saves against Mercer on Sunday.
