With a current 13-1 record, men's tennis

iM, Florida Atlantic, Northern Kentucky,
jen Bay, and nationally ranked St. John's.
After their first loss of the season against
ake on March 18, the Hatters came back to
it Green Bay in their eleventh win of the sea-
1 on March 20. They recorded their twelfth
i thirteenth wins against Kennesaw State and
srcer, respectively, over the weekend.
The pressure for the Stetson victory rested
on the shoulders of freshman Cahit Kapuki-
ran. He fell 3-6 in the first match against Erik
Finkenbrink, but came back to win the last two
matches 6-3 and 6-4 putting the Hatters ahead
4-3 by the end of the match.
Freshman Simon Julin and sophomore
Chester Espie have also been major contributors for the Hatters with their tremendous performances this season.
Julin was most recently named Atlantic
Sun Player of the Week for two straight weeks.
The freshman is 2-0 in singles without dropping
a set in Atlantic Sun play. He currently holds a
10-0 record in singles for the season.
Leading the Hatters' victory against Northern Kentucky, Espie broke his school record
with 21 straight singles victories.
"I feel pretty lucky, a lot of those matches
were tight and I guess there was a little bit of
luck in there," Espie said. "I am pretty happy
with getting 21 wins and helping the team with
all of those matches."
Pilote was astonished by Espie's record-
breaking accomplishment. "When you break a
record, it's phenomenal," he said. "It was one
of the records that I thought would never be
broken."
The Hatters are en route to a promising
season and continue in conference play in two
home games against ETSU on March 28 at
noon and USC Upstate on March 30 at 2 p.m.

After winning the A-Sun conference championship for the second time in three years,
and making it to the first round of the NCAA
Tournament, the Lady Hatters fell to UCLA 66-
49 on March 23 in Columbus, Ohio. The first
round game was broadcasted live on ESPN2
andESPN3.
The Hatters played a season for the record
books, going 14-4 in the A-Sun Conference and
14-8 overall. The Hatters won all three of the
conference championship games by more than
ten points each time.
"This is a very exciting time for me. Going
to the NCAA tournament is a big deal, especially because it will be the second time I've
gone in three years," Janelle Mills, senior forward, said. "Many people don't get that type
of opportunity so I'm extremely blessed in that
aspect."
The Hatters got off to a slow start in the
game, trailing 26-7 before the first half was
even over.
The second half was much more exciting
for players and fans alike when the Lady Hatters stepped up the pace. The two teams were
neck-and-neck until the 17-point loss, sending
Stetson back to Florida with a tough loss, but an
overall incredible season.
Victoria McGowan, senior guard, was the
point leader for the Hatters in the first-round
game with a career-high 14 rebounds and 14
points up on the board. McGowan finished her
collegiate career with a total of 1532 points
scored, placing second in school history.
