The voting booths will open at 10:00 a.m., and will close at 6:00 p.m.. The elections will be open to any student who is listed in the University roster. The elections are ran each year by the Student Government Association and carried out by the Selections and Elections Committee. This year the elections will be overseen by S.G.A. Vice President Chan Martin. Martin wiU ran the elections because Senator David Whidden, Committee Chairman, wiE appear on the ballot. The votes will be counted by a group of non-candidate S.G.A. members. During an interview last night Whidden stated that he was looking forward to the election due to the great student interest. Whidden added that he"feels confident that there will be a large student turnout and that the voters will make valid and wise choices." Progressive Democrats reorganize By GLENN KINDRED Candidates for the various positions were given the opportunity to sign up in the lobby of the Carlton Union Building through last Wednesday. To be considered eligible for candidacy all students must have and maintain no less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and be in good standing according to the office of student affairs. Many of the offices have additional requirements such as approval by various boards and enrollment in certain schools within niversity. Among the posts [ committe approval are all related posts, such as and Business Managers. The posts requiring enrollment in specific schools are the Music School Advisory Board and the Student Affairs Committee. As of 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon there were; 2 candidates- signed up to run for S.G.A. President, 1 candidate for S.U.B. President, 2 for Judicial Council President, 2 for S.G.A. President, 3 for S.U.B. President, and 3 for Judicial Council President. Of these six races the only incumbent candidate is running for S.G.A. President. The election results will be tabulated in the Student Government office on the Second floor of the C.U.B.. Any candidate may request that a witness be present at the counting but candidates will not be permitted in the room. Once all votes have been tabulated the figures will be checked and the results varified. Students may see Several students have joined together to reorganise the Stetson chapter of the Young Democrats. The Young Democrats represent the views and opinions of the national, state and local Democratic Parties. Young Democrat President James Birmingham describes the group as "progressive." Birmingham claims that the group is needed on Stetson's campus because the other student ran political groups tend to only represent "fringe elements." The group will be advised by Dr.'s Baily and Maris of the Political Science Department. The student officers are James Birmingham-President, James Daughton-Vice President, John Moore-Treasurer, and Jon Hansen-Secretary. According to Birmingham "about ten students" have shown an interest in the group. Birmingham and Daughton repeatedly stated in an interview thai they hope to clarify the image of the Democratic Party. Birmingham noted that the Democrats are traditionally thought of as "big spenders" he added that "it is really (eontlBHdanp.8) SGA votes no on proposed bathroom Ml By GLOW KINDRED The weekly meeting of the Student Government Association was held last Monday night in the John E. Johns room of Elizabeth Hall. During the meeting two new bills were heard and a third bill was returned to the Senate floor for a final vote. The first piece of legislation to be discussed was referred to the senate negatively by the Housing Com mittee. The bill delt with the placement of urinal candies in the bathrooms of the mens dormitories. The bill was .defeated after long debate. Participant Member Ben Worst, who originally wrote the bill described it as his pet project and said he was sorry the proposal "went down the tubes." The bill had been referred negatively to the senate because it was reported that Chuck Johnson of the Physical Plant Department of the University had refused to provide them. The comment then came from the floor that the University had banned the use of Urinal candy in fraternity row on the grounds that it plugs pipes. The new legislation which was refered to committees for research consisted of a bill by Participant Member Chip Howard and one from Senator David Whidden. Howard's proposal was that the University install paper towel dispensers in the residence hall the results immediately after varification. They wffl be posted in the lobby of the C.U.B.. According to students who took part in last year's election the results were made public at about 11:00 p.m.. Once the election results are posted there are varying amounts of time until offices change hands. Most publications change officers at the end of this year but organizations such as the Student Government wifl alow new officers to assume control at a swearing in to be held in Me April. SUB sells sandwiches By JOE ROACH Stuff Writer The weekly meeting of the SUB took place in room 204 of the CUB on Monday April Sth. President Laura McCarthy encouraged members to vote in the upcoming election, and to try to get others people to vote. She also wished candidates good luck and reminded them to read the election code and to follow these regulations. Vice-President Mike Brennan then gave his report. He said that Pin- seky and Gray went very well. Another Happy Hour is scheduled for Tuesday April 14th. The SUB will be selling 6ineh subs from Subway on the Hat Rack Patio. A Happy Hour with TCBY is in the works. AU proceeds from these Happy Hours go to the J Ollie Edmunds Scholorship Fund. Barber and Seville will be here on April 20th. There will be a teaser at 10am on the Hat Rack Patio. There will be food, so come and enjoy yourself. Concerts Chairperson Jim Smarkusky announced that ther ivas a high probability of a concert on May 2nd. Jim is working on discounted tickets for Stetson ID holders. Fine Arts Chairman BUI McBride said that tickets to the Largo Renaissance Festival will be on sale for $5.00 each until April 15th. The tickets are good the 11th, 12th, 18th, or 19th of April and are $7.95 at the door. The last Friday Flick went well, and attendance was high. Tonights Friday Flick will be fflgh road To China starring Tom Selleck and Bess Armstrong. SOC Chairman Jono Ridler said that the rafting and mountain climbing trip is still on for April 24- 27.
