Volume 104 Issue 12 January 14, 1992 Long Awaited Rush Begins By Karen Beckett Assistant News Editor After three and a half months of waiting, all new and incoming students will be eligible to join the Greek system during the Winter Term. Spring rush for the sororities begins on Wednesday, Jan, 15 with the formation of Rho Chi groups. At 7 p.m. official rush registration will be held in the Stetson Room. Sunday evening from 5:00 to 9:15 the first round of Coke parties will begin. Each, of the Rho Chi groups will circulate around to each of the individual sorority houses for 30-minute sessions with the sorority sisters. A second round of Coke parties will be held on Monday from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. after which the invitation lists will be drawn up. Tuesday, the 21st, is a silence day when the sororities are not allowed to have contact with rushees. The invitational parties will be held on Wednesday, followed by another day of silence on Thursday. Friday is the last day of parties, with preferential parties from 5:00 to 7:15 p.m. Bidding will then begin. Bids will be delivered on Saturday morning by the Rho Chis and at 10 a.m. the Candlelight Ceremony will be held in Elizabeth Hall Chapel. Fraternal rush will also begin on Sunday, Jan. 19 for those interested. Fraternities being represented will be Alpha Tau Omega, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Delta Sigma Phi. On Monday, the Phi Sigma Kappa, lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Nu will be represented. Both nights rushees will meet in front of the Carlton Union Building at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday nights the Informal Smokers will be held from 7:00 to 10:00 in the individual fraternity houses. These are by invitation only. Thursday is Shirt Night, also by invitation only, and all rushees must leave the frat houses by 10 p.m. Desperately Seeking... An Editor "Unless a new editor is found in the next week, there will be no yearbook this year," Publications Board chairman ?Robert Bullock announced last week. Renee Dipetsia, the student who had been editing the Hatter yearbook, left the University at the end of the fall term. According to Darald Stubbs, Hatter advisor, none of the current staff members are willing to take on the position of editor. At an emergency meeting last Thursday, Publications Board members decided to try to find a new editor or team of co-editors instead of shutting down the year book immediately. "If we can't find someone who is experienced as a yearbook editor and willing to take on the position, though, we may have no choice but to halt publication," Bullock said. The Editor position pays $750 for the semester. "What we don't want is a lot of complaining," said Hatter business manager Craig Davenport. "People need to get off their be- hinds and help out if they truly want to have a yearbook." "We realize that we are asking a lot of a prospective editor when we say 'here is an under-budgeted, understaffed project which has its first deadline in less than one month and which cannot afford to pay you much in return'," said Bullock. "But we hope that there is someone out there with the stamina, willingness and intelligence to take on the position." Applications for the Editor position are available in room 207 of the Carlton Union Building and must be filled out by Wednesday, January 22 to be considered. The Publications Board will meet again on January 24 to decide on the Hatter's future, Bullock said. Inside this issue... HC '92 is Evergreen By Derek Ashworth Staff Writer Stetson University will celebrate Homecoming '92 beginning Friday with the theme of "Evergreen"- stressing the school's commitment to the environment and inviting alumni to renew friendships and recycle the fun of their college years. For the first time in nearly twenty years, Stetson will kick off the weekend's festivities with a Homecoming Parade beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday. The parade, originating at the Edmunds Center on E. Pennsylvania Avenue will move south on Woodland Boulevard to Rich Avenue. The parade will turn east on to Amelia Avenue and proceed north back to East Pennsylvania. The parade will feature the Orlando Naval Training Center Color Guard, followed by President and Mrs. Douglas Lee, Provost and Mrs. Louis Brakeman, Trustee Chairman Hyatt Brown, alumni leaders, and alumni groups such as the "S" Club, which includes Stetson's lettermen. Music will be provided by the Stetson Pop Band, Stetson's cheerleaders, and Stetson's dance troupe, Synchronicity. The line of march will also include student groups with fraternities, sororities, uniformed athletic teams, and other campus groups represented. Homecoming festivities continue that evening with two concerts, one featuring rock band Kansas and the other by harpsichordist Webb Wiggins. Wiggins' concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday in Elizabeth Hall Chapel and is free. Kansas will also perform at 8 p.m.- in the Edmunds Center. Tickets for the concert are $5 for Stetson students and children twelve and under, and $8 for the general public. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets. Planned for Saturday in the Elizabeth Hall Chapel is a Music Showcase Concert sponsored by the School of Music at 1:30 p.m. Saturday evening the Stetson men's basketball team will take on Georgia State, with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 in the Ed munds Center.
