mversi The first meeting of Stetson's University Council was held on last Monday at 10:00 A. M. with the University president, Dr. John Johns, presiding. The Council, established last Spring under the leadership of SGA President Jim Davis and Dr. Johns will serve as an advisory group to the university. Forty- eight memberv24 students and 24 faculty and administrators make up of the council. Its purpose, said Dr. Johns, is to use its mass cross section of Stetson's constituencies in order to determine what course of unc action is best for the University. It will meet monthly in closed sessions. But the president stressed that any member of the university community who wishes to address Use council may do so by requesting to be placed on the monthly agenda. Student leaders, including the Presidents of SGA, the Stetson Union Board, the judiciary councils, Panhellenic, In- terfiraternity Council; and the editor of the paper, will sit with such key university officials as the business manager, the student deans, the academic deans, and of course the President himself. Sixteen faculty members will also sit fa the council. Today is the last day to register to vote. All persons 18 years of age or older who have been residents of Florida for one year and residents of Volusia County for sis months may register in the Volusia County Courthouse On New York Ave. The Sunshine Bus will be going there at 10:00 a.m. for anyone who needs transportation. Representatives from upwards of fifty coEeges and universities fa the eastern United States will convene on campus and proceed to organise along the same lines as the United States Senate: committees, party caucuses, debates, and bill passages. Topics of biEs will also approximate their counterpart on -the national scene. The ensuiisf debate wffl offer a cross section of opinion of collegians and could well portend a reasonable con- sensus of the newly-enfranehised group of young people. The Stetson arrangements' committee, chaired by John Fraser, is composed of nearly two dozen students who have been planning and organMngs since early spring.
