A small committee appointed by the Chairman of Facsdfy Senate will administer the election, which wili be held sonsetarie in March. Dr. William Hugh McEsisry was originally a professor of English at Stetson. He advanced to Dean of the University after serving as Dean of the fdollege of 1 liberal Arts and went on to become Chancellor of the University of fforth Carolina at Charlottr. He was considered a popular and effes-tive dean, who encouraged professors to strife for esicellence in thc classroom, rather than spending time with publications, Dr. joiner said one of the few details that hsss been determined is the decision that no one will be ahewtd to receive the award twice within I years. The winner of the eash award wili be announced at commencement exercises at the end af the Spring term. Dr. John Booth, professor of business statistics, was questioned about the statistical problems of the system planned for making the award, He replied that two basic problems occur with this method of selection. First, there is the problem that same professors wid have a better chance to win the award simply because more students know than, for instance, the probabtbty of a profesaor in the College of liberal Arts receiving the award is higher than that of a professor tn the College of Music, because a larger hotly of students have had expriertcc with liberal Art professors Also, thc chances of a Religion professor are better because all students must take af least one course sn that department. The second problem Dr. Booth discussed is that, depnding upon the approach taken, the election could be a popularity contest rather than an honest evaluation of the instructs**;, teaching method.
