Dr. Philpott, vice-president of the University of Florida, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon in the Forest of Arden at 8 a.m. Mr. Davis, president of the Winn- Dixie Stores, Inc., will speak at commencement ceremonies starting at 6:30 p.m., also in the Forest, weather permitting. Dr. Philpott, who is a Baptist minister, has been widely active in religious and educational activities since his graduation from Washington and Lee University, cum laude, in 1938. He was director of religious activities at that school between 1938 and 1940. and was a Navy chaplain from 1943 to 1946. He then became assistant professor and associate professor of religion at the University of Florida, serving from 1947 to 1952 at which time he became Dean of Religious Life and head of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Stephens College. In 1957 he relinquished that post to become Vice President of the University of Florida.
