Blake, Stetson University assistant professor of Ejnglish, has been appointed corresponding reader for the publishing houses of Random House and Alfred Knopf in New York City. Blake will write opinions of new novels submitted to these publishers. The Stetson University library has received from the Fund for Adult Education a publication showing the results of experiments with study discussion groups throughout the country. The studies have been called "landmarks in the development of education," providing evidence of the invaluable role that study discussion takes in liberal education today. Donald Yaxley, acting dean (of Stetson University's School of Music, will attend the meeting of the executive committee of the Florida College of Music Educators Association on Saturday in Tampa. This is, I think, a sad diommen- tary on the state of society, and, in some cases, of park benches. I am quite interested in park benches. This event will feature the Pyramids from Gainesville and will begin Stetson's Hatter Holiday. Co-chairmen, Bob Morris and Sandy Ivey, and their committees have planned a schedule that will be full of fun and activity. At 9:30 Wednesday morning at the Springs the events will begin with a forty yard dash. All the organizations on campus are entering some of their members in the contests hoping to pile up enough points to win the trophies. Some of the highlights of these contests are the tug-of-war, swimming contests, faculty volleyball game, and the dancing contest. There are also many other events. Have you ever wished that you could get a professor to do some work for you? Well, now is your chance! Come to the Mortar Board Slave Auction at ten a.m. at the Springs and purchase one of your favorite profs. Dr. Warren F. Jones, auctioneer, will be selling such interesting people as Dean McEniry, Dean Hood, Dean Bagget, Dean Turner, Dr. Chauvin, Mr. Sartain, and Dr. activity ticket. There will be no lunch served in the Commons on Wednesday, but meal tickets will be good at DeLeon. Hatter Holiday will be climaxed at 2:30 Wednesday with the selection of Mr. and Miss Stetson, and Mr. and Miss Ugly. Edmunds Presents ROTC Awards Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds, attended Monday's regular ROTC drill by the Stetson cadets and presented several awards to members of the rifle team. Cadet Lt. Col. Melvin F. Guenther of DeLand was awarded a special belt and buckle for attaining the highest individual score (197 of a possible 200) within the Third Army Area in the William Randolf Hearst Match. The Stetson ROTC rifle team placed third in the Third Army area in this match . The following members of the team received a special medal: Cadet Lt. Col. Guenther, Cadet M/Sgt Ralph C. Langham, Cadet Pvt. George F. Fischback, Cadet Cpl. Robert T. Matthews and Pvt. James S. Penny. The local ROTC rifle team won the Army Area ROTC intercollegiate Smallbore Rifle Match for 10-61. The following men, in addition to the five mentioned in the above paragraph, received a special medal: Cadet 2nd Lt. Franklin R. Babb, Cadet Staff Sgt. James Gibson, Cadet Cpl. Charles E. Moore, Cadet Capt. Paul V. Hendrix and Cadet Staff Sgt, William. Winderweedle. Also scheduled to receive the same- medal but absent from the formation, was Cadet Pvt, Stephen Grant. Dr. Edmunds presented all awards The various sponsors were appointed to honorary grades and assigned primary duty as follows: Virginia Holtzendorf, Honorary Cadet Colonel, Battle Group Sponsor Headquarters Detachment; Carol Clark, Honorary Cadet Captain, Co. A; Judy Woods, Honorary Cadet Captain, Co. D; Gail Hilverink, Honorary Cadet Captain, Co. C; and Sue Fredrickson, Honorary Cadet Captain, Co. B. All reviewed the Cadets with Dr. Edmunds and Lt. Col.
