Milham was also master of ceremonies last year. 'Pick of the Crop' Shown In Frosh Talent Program by Carolyn Miller The annual Freshman Talent Show emce-ed by Dick Milham was presented Friday night, September 27th, in Elizabeth Hall auditorium to capacity audiences. Performances were given at 7:00 and again at 9:00. Charley Day introduced Milham, a former Stetson student, who eniceed both performances. Entertainment Varied Participants on the program f represented many sections of the country. Entertainment was varied, ranging f^om baton twirlng t© a calypso ensemble. Mary Ann Swan, an attractive brunette from Decatur, Georgia, opened the show with a vocal rendition of "Night and Day." Other vocalists on the program were Mel Gsinther, who sang "Aiound the World"; Hope Hu&- Ica, who got a big hand with "I Could Have Dar-eed All Night"; and Mary Inez MeCx'ough, who charmed the audience with '"Bless This Kcuse." The show included two panto mime routines. Maudina Barteaux of Miami did "Sweet Old Fashioned Girls." and Todd Clay of Ccral Gables gave the audience some advice from "The Oid Philosopher." Instrumental Given Instrumental numbers included Alice Worthingtcn's piano' rendition of "Spoon River," and Jesse Ellis' performance of "Doll Dance" on the organ. Carolyn Clark gave a reading of the beautiful Negro Sermon, "The Creation." She was accompanied by Jesse Ellis on organ. Wooclall Leads ROTC Corps; Brannefi Continues At Stetson Twenty Seniors, School And Class ATeminaiing Today In SG-A Meet Nominations for school-class officers will be made today in Assembly. Nominations are to be made from the floor by a member of the nominee's class or school. Elections will be held Tuesday. October 8, and runoffs will be Thursday, October 10. Officers to be elected are president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the respective classes and schools. To be president of the Senior Class, Colleges of Law and Liberal Arts, Schools of Business and Music, the candidate must be at least a first semester senior not to graduate earlier than June. To be considered a member of a class (for voting purposes) a student must be at least a first semester member of his respective class. The Rules and Procedures Committee shall determine class membership standing through the Registrar. No candidate for offices in college, school and classes shall be on academic, probation. A ca-ndidate in any election must receive a majority of the votes cast. If no majority is received on the first ballot, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes cast shall be voted upon again.* ""Constitution of the SGA of Stetson University Article VIII Sections 3-7. FACELIFTED ON LIBRARY No more umbrellas and overshoes in the Library, because the roof was repaired during the summer. The showerbaths, not really necessary, and the puddles requiring detoui's are gone forever. And, what is more, the main reading room as well as the entire main floor has been painted and refurbished. People are saying that the soft green interior will make studying much easier. In fact, it will be a pleasure. A new service is being offered to the college community this year, in the opening of the Reference Alcove. Here, skilled assistance will be available day and night, and, believe it or not, there will be plenty of room to sit and spread out study materials. Students and faculty are sure to enjoy this attractive room. Very soon there will be other changes everyone has longed for, such as a new water cooler and additional light in the stacks. Many other minor repairs and improvements have been made, which will make life in the library much happier. If all this seems too good to be true, just come and see for yourself. BAND OR ORCHESTRA Anyone wanting to play in the band, orchestra, or try out for majorette, should report to the Band Hall no later than Tuesday, October 8, 1957. Two Juniors Are Officers Jack Woodall, New Commander of ROTC Battalion, made one of the highest records among Stetson Students at annual ROTC summer Camp at Fort Benning, Georgia, during the past summer. The highest ranking cadets, taking into consideration both academic standing achieved at Stetson during the past three years and the record made at summer camp, are appointed to these positions. No permanent ranks or permanent positions have been assigned yet. All the cadet officers have been appointed so as to provide Stetson University with the best possible Cadet Corps. The Cadet officers assigned include the 20 seniors enrolled in the second year advance course. Two juniors have been appointed as officers, with the remaining thirty juniors acting in non-commissioned officer status. The tjvo juniors are Kenneth Shepard and William White. Last year Shepard was a Sergeant First Class and was acting Platoon Sergeant of "D" Company. White, also in "IV company was a squad leader with the cadet rank of Sergeant First Class.
