Through-a lot of hard work and determination Stetson's Water Ski Club has recently become a recognized organization. The club is limited to 20 members, ail of which have previous skiing experience. There are three executive officers and an advisor. They are: Frankie Carlton, President; Raymond Conway, Vice- president; Mary Carlton, Secretary and Treasurer; Betty Lee Taylor, advisor. The other 17 members are: Art. Holmes, Bill White, Bill Decker, Ralph Williams, John Saba, Mike Blockner, Chuck Waygood, Chuck Portz, Tuny Montfort, Mike O'Neal, Jack Alford, Don Iverson, Coleman Waites, Dave Fuller, Susan Hays, Sonny Stephenson, and Doug- Williams. Last Saturday the club spent .the entire afternoon at Colonel and Mrs. Kingslands' estate on Lake Osceola in Winter Park. This was the first actual time the club has skied together and many more such outings are in the making. In the future the club hopes to be in strong competition, both in intramurals and with other schools. By Jack Woodall ROTC cadets begin practice Monday during: their regular drill period for the annual Military Field Day to be held May 13 on Huliey Field. Companies will compete to earn points for the Honor Company of the Year. The contests include a four-man proficiency run to put the machine gun into action, stripping of the M-l rifle for time, a scramble in which the parts of a BAR, Carbine and M-l are thrown together and must be assembled; physical training consisting of push-ups, pull-ups, 300-yard dash; squad drill with a sophomore cadet in command; platform drill with a junior commanding. Medals which will be presented at the Military Awards Day, May 20, are being given by the Scabbard and Blade, national honorary military, society. The military department invites everyone to come to the events to see some of the jobs a cadet must do every week while in the corps and during the six-week summer' camp period. FULLER AWARDED Miss Dorothy Fuller, associate professor of biology and a member of the faculty at Stetson University since 1941, has been awarded a $300 National Science Foundation Fellowship to study for 10 weeks at Mountain Lake Biological Station in Virginia. The Mountain Lake Station is operated by the University of Virginia. Coach Morland COACH TAKE SHORT LEAVE Richard B. Morland, chairman of the department of health and physical education and head basketball coach has been granted a year's leave of absence to do research at New York University. The research will continue a study on the subject of "A Philosophical Interpretation of the Educational Views held by Leaders in American Physical Education." Morland believes these philosophies fall into at least four categories and he hopes in the next year to more clearly define these groups. He has completed his course work for the doctor's degree but has not finished his dissertation (Continued On Page Four) Boswell? The day's balloting was considerably heavy as approximately 800 students went to the polls. * Pre-Law Student Wins GRADUATION CHANGED! There have been several notable changes in the dates and time of events during commencement week. Seniors are urged to check these carefully. The faculty, friends, and families of seniors, and Comjmencement guests are invited. 7 p.m., Commencement, Forest of Arden. OFFICERS ELECTED At Camp O'Leno where the State B.S.U. Retreat was held last week, two Stetsonites were elected to state offices. Phil Parr, a sophomore from Jacksonville, was- elected Devotional vice-president. Ray Andrews, a junior from Pensacola, was elected music director. Jim Hodge, a pre-law major from Jacksonville, was elected SGA president for 1957-58 as he defeated Carl Gipson, Hatter party candidate, by a vote of 578- 179. There were 15 write-in votes for Jerry Corley. In other SGA races Jackie Hogue became the new vice- president by winning over- Jo Co- burn, 546-216. In the social vice- presidential race, Art Holmes was victorious over Randy Walford by a 540-245 vote. Gail Pitt- man, the University Party's unopposed candidate - for secretary, compiled a total, of 647 votes. Wayne Graham defeated Jerry Johnston, 461-308, to become SGA treasurer. SGA Installation Today Installation of the new SGA officers will take place today in assembly at 10 a.m. Dr. Stover will give the invocation at the service, and the program will include two numbers by the Stetson Glee Club travel squad. (Photo by Paul Corll and Larry Keith) Pi Kaps Capture "Holiday" Trophy Yesterday Stetson students fathered at DeLeon Springs for Hatter Holiday, the annual spring recess. Amid shrieks of horror and .'aughter the Mr. Ugly contestants made their entry. Chad Alien of Sigma Nu received the title of "Mr. Ugly" by being more gruesome than Ed Adrian of Lambda Chi or Tom Mundy, Pike representative. Dick Milhazn served as •naster of ceremonies for the events, and music was furnished jy the Art Kibbe quintet. Pi Kappa Phi won first place m men's events with 28 points. Pi Kappa Alpha was second with \8 and Sigma Nu third with 14. In the Wornen"s events Zala Tau Aipha placed first with 21 points, Alpha Xi Delta second with 16, and Tri-Delts third with 11. it WAS FUN, tVEN It- WE ARE SORE TGDAY-lEven though it rained off and on yesterday, there was still enough sun to get those shoulders red as students flocked to Hatter Holiday activities.
