In a special interview with the 1 REPORTER Joe Huckleberry, Green Feather Committee Chairman, stated that the official an- ouncement of the drive which is Stetson's own Community Chest will be made November 9th in Assembly. The goal for the stu- 1( dent body this year has been set at $2500. Huckleberry remarked that anyone who is interested in working on the Green Feather Committee should contact him at once. •Another innovation in the drive this year will be that all of the money collected will be earmarked by special student legislation before the drive begins. Sugges- . tions as to how the money should be donated and to what organization maybe dropped in the SGA suggestion box under the bulletin board in the Soda Shop. Concurrent with the drive will be the renewal of Sadie Hawkins Week activities which will be carried on in part to aid in the collection of funds for the Green Feather campaign. Present plans call for the boys to grow beards A during the week. Persons who do not grow beards will have to buy . "beardless permits" or face sentence in the stock. The" young ladies on the campus will not es- . cape either - they must buy "marriage licenses" which are the tick- ,ets to the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. Tentative plans for Saturday also include such activities as; (Continued on' page two) Profits From Book To Go To Alums "Today,We're Free!"a deeply- moving story of a man's search for a woman, by Rossie C. Allen '31, wife of Dr. Robert I. Allen, formerly of the physics department at Stetson University, will be on sale at the University bookstore during Hom'ecoming, according to G.E. "Eddie" Gilliland, director of alumni affairs. While the book will be on sale at the publisher's price, all profits from local sales will go to the United Stetson Alumni fund. Mrs. Allen will attend homecoming and will autograph books sold during the weekend. The Aliens now live in Atlanta here Dr. Allen is head of the physics department of the University of Georgia's Atlanta Division. Mrs. Allen is a musician and composer, clothes designer, and conducts her own radio program. TV Program Stetson Homecoming in mina- ture was staged last night on WESH-TV in Daytona Beach in three separate programs. Student Homecoming Chairman Roger Williams, Majorette June Barry and Cheerleader Joyce Har- rell were guests on a regularly- scheduled program of coming events. In a later program, Rumer and Shamrock were interviewed on a sports program with particular emphasis on the game. Talks Open In New Planetarium The new planetarium, given to the University by Dr. Laban Lacy Rice, of Orlando, was formally dedicated last night in an impressive ceremony conducted by Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds, president, in Monroe Heath Museum. Because a limited number of people can enjoy the planetarium at a given time, guest invitations were limited to that number. Dr. Rice gave the first lecture and will be heard again at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The first 40 alumni and Homecoming guests will be admitted to the planetarium for the lectures each night, according to G. E. "Eddie" Gilliland, director of alumni affairs. If additional campus visitors are interested, additional lectures will be scheduled each night. These probably will be given by Dr. John Vaughen or Prof. Emmett Ashcraft. The planetarium is a permanent fixture in the Museum and will be available for a regular lecture series and for special lectures to be scheduled in advance. The planetarium was manufactured by Dr. Armand Spitz. It projects the heavenly bodies on a dome 20 feet in diameter. The 24-hour cycle of the sun, moon and stars requires about six minutes. It can be stopped at any position for detailed study. ALL-FLORIDA The All Florida Magazine, for November 11 a weekly supple- and 29 other Florida newspapers, will feature an article on the state social recreation workshop held in May on the Stetson campus. This is the first time that all the class and college officers have been sworn in as a groun. The officers carry new weight thi« year under the recent constitutional amendments. Carolyn Andws-un and Jerry Brown, Homecoming Mayor and Hostess dust off the Welcome mat for all the returning alumni and students. They will preside at all the Homecoming events. The two were elected in one of the heaviest ballotings in the history of the school. 930 students participated. Marine Band To Play Tomorrow ATTENTION ALL GIRLS! The Marines have landed! The Charleston Marine Band, one of the nations top military bands, will be participating in Stetson's Homecoming activities. The forty- five piece band will play in chapel Friday and in the parade Saturday, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. from the football stadium and ending here at the school. There will also be a concert in Elizabeth Hall at 3:00 Friday afternoon. The band master has asked us to announce that band members will be available for dates! Stover Theatre has donated tickets for the Homecoming play and plans are in the making for tickets to be given them for the dance Saturday night. ^Mi'l If
