An* elaborate student night program to open the Second Annual > Florida State Recreation Workshop, April 24, at the DeLand National Guard Armory has been arranged, according to Mrs.- Sara Staff Jernigan, director of the workshop. The following three nights the workshop will be open to the pub- ' lie. Students and faculty members may attend. The student night is closed to townspeople. The program follows: ■" Ways of getting: participants on the floor quickly, numbers and variations, different languages, color, names that rhyme, and completion of song. After the REPORTER went to press last week the University Party completed its primary in which all the fraternities and part of the sororities took part. Final results of the UP balloting found Jackie Hogue running for vice-president; Art Holmes, social vice-president; Gail Pitt- man, secretary; andl Wayne Graham,' treasurer. Jim Hodge, the presidential candidate, was unopposed in the primary. Hodge is a member of Pi Kappa Phi; Holmes, Sigma Nu; and Graham, Delta Sigma Fhi. Jackie belongs to Tri-Delt. In a statement to the Reporter, presidential candidate Hjodfee stated: "Speaking for myself, and I'm sure for all of the candidates who will be representing the University Party in the coming election, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the vote of confidence that the members of the party have placed! in us in selecting us to represent them. Certainly we realize the tremendous responsibilities that our particular office would entail should we be elected, and I am confident that each candidate has considered these and is capable and willing to do his particular job to the best of his ability. We thank you for your support in the primaries and expect your continued! support in the election." Two Publications' Posts Uncontested Eight candidates for student publications were approved Wednesday by the Publications Committee. They now must be elected by the student body, and choices are to be made in three races. For Editor of the Reporter- George Owen, of Lakeland, and Jo Boswell, Cynthiana, Ky. For Business Manager of the Reporter—Dick Scott, Daytona Beach. For Editor of the Hatter—Mimi Shaw, Venice, and Ann Taylor, DeLand. For Business Manager of the Hatter—Fred Slaughter, Bristol, Tenn., and William L. White, Jacksonville. For Editor of the Student Handbook—Poke Runyon, St. Petersburg. ARTICLE REHASHED; REFERENDUM HINTED The SGA Constitutional Revision Committee met agajn Monday morning and reworked Article XII (Organizations) of the new revision. Joel Sloan, chairman of the Rules and Procedures Comit- tee, has decided to hold another referendum on the whole constitution with the - Article XII change. Lt. Second Victory Sought By HP; Coburn, Walford Seek Posts In a convention-type meeting held Monday morning the Hatter Party chose Carl Gipson as their candidate for president of the Student Government Association. Other nominations are Jo Coburn for vice-president; Randy Walford, social vice-president; Sammie Richards, secretary; and Jerry Johnston, treasurer. Tudor Succeeds Hepler In a meeting previous to this one the party elected Ronald Tudor as their chairman. He succeeds Zeke Hepler who was last year's Hatter Party chairman. To work with Tudor, the Hatter Party selected Nancy Norse as secretary, Jo Coburn as treasurer, and Joan Rousseau as publicity manager. Joan has selected her committee and announces that campaign and publicity plans are already underway for the coming election. In regard to the party and the nominations, Tudor made the following statement: "We recognize that the Student Government Association will have a job next year which will easily compare with any situation which the student body has faced in recent years. In light of this the Hatter Party has endeavored to place in nomination only those people who will be able to . do the best job for the student body without animosities, and partiality to any smaller organization. We desire above all else to secure for office the people who will best represent the pulse of the student body. Last year we were successful in doing this in the office of president, vice-president, and social (Continued on page five) ROTC RANKED "SUPERIOR" Stetson's Reserve Officers Training Corps' battalion has been given a superior rating at the annual formal inspection on Monday and Tuesday. The inspection team was composed of two infantry colonels from Ft. Jackson, S. C: Colonel Leland B. Shaw and Lt. Colonel Herbert E. Kneece. The purpose of the inspection was to cover all aspects of the general military science program to include classroom inspections, inspection of cadets in ranks, inspection of facilities, and a conference with the university officials. In giving the superior rating "the inspection team indicated that they considered Stetson as one of the best units they had observed during their three weeks inspection tour of various schools in the Third United States Army Area. Carl Gipson HATTER HOLIDAY EVENTS LISTED; DANCE PLANNED Hatter Holiday, one of the highlights of the year at Stetson, will be held at DeLeon Springs on Thursday, May 2. Plans are progressing on schedule it was learned from Harry Conner and Joel Sloan, general chairmen. They stated that the dance, sponsored by the Stetson "S" Club , would be held Wednesday evening, May 1, at the Armory. Schedule for the event-? were arranged and released by Jim Hodge, Tom McPherson, Joyce Harrell, and Carole Holland.
