Yaxley To Present Concert Donald C. Yaxley, Associate conductor of the Stetson Symphony band conducted his first full concert Tuesday night in Elizabeth Hall. Yaxley has conducted symphony concerts in part since he has been at Stetson but not an entire evening's program. The program follows: "Silver Springs Overture," hy Poole; "Military March," Beethoven; "Death and Transfiguration," finale by Strauss; "First Swedish Rhapsody," Leidzen; "Waggery for Woodwinds," by Walters; "Dance of the Spanish Onion," by Rose; "Someday My Prince Will Come," "One Song," Churchill from the motion picture, "Snow Whfte," "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," Mor- risey, trombone solo,- Douglans Beer; "Baniage for Brasses," Walters; "Funiculi Funicula," Denza and "River Jordan," Whitney. Canterbury Club Meets Canterbury Club's speaker last ' week was Mrs. Winston Morrow' who spoke lo us on Japan, the land and people, illustrating her interesting talk with colored slides. Those who plan to donate .blood are also advised not to eat four hours} before giving blood-with the exception of orange juice or dry toast. The curtain has rung down on another Hatter Holiday and the gala events have become memories. But for several individuals and groups the memories will remain vivid for years to come. Among them are Clarence Hughes and .Marilyn Talton, who took top lienors in the Mr. and Miss Stetson contests; the Sigma Nu's and Independents, who tied for iirst place in men's competitive events; the Alpha Xi's, who topped all competition in the girls contests; and Richard Paddock, who is now the proud owner of one of Stetson's highest (?) titles —"Ugliest Man on the Campus." Another group who the university hopes will remember are the high school students who came to the campus from all over central Florida. Most of the students invited were high gchoo} seniors who are still undecided about their college choice; the holiday gave- them a wonderful opportunity to "case the joint." The holiday began with a Variety Show in the Elizabeth Hall auditorium featuring the Mr. and Miss Stetson contests. Competing for the Miss Stetson honor were: Virginia Davis, representing Lambda Chi Alpha; Carolyn Collins, Pi Beta Phi; Carolyn Kennedy, Pi Kappa Alpha; Joyce Carman, Phi Mu; Crissy Gray,- Zeta Tau Alpha; Marilyn Talton, Delta Sigma Phi; Eleanor Turk, "S" Club; Evelyn Hall, Delta Delta Delta; Willa Watson, Stray Greeks; and Nancy Peters, Alpha Xi Delta. Competing for the Mr. Stetson honor were: Clarence Hughes, representing Sigma Phi Epsilon; George Wilde, Pi Kappa Alpha; John Wing, Lambda Chi Alpha; Allen Meyer, Independent; Walt Jasinski, Pi Kappa Phi; Sonny Parish, Sigma Nu; and Dick Toole, Delta Sigma Phi. Jack Coldiron MC'd ^.the show. Providing entertainment* were Bill Harris (with guitar), the Alpha Xi Quintet (with guns) and Betty Lynn (with' Jack Coldiron). Climaxing tho show was the annual "Ugliest Man on the Campus" contest. Competing were: Richard Paddock, representing Lambda Chi Alpha; Dave Early, Pi Kappa Phi; Ronnie Walker, Delta Sigma Phi; Charlie Powers, Pi Kappa Alpha; Butch Willard. Sigma Phi Epsilon; and Harry Usher, Sigma Nu. Various theories have been circulating the campus explaining the absence of the "-Ugliest Girl on Campus" contest.:..,- Unfortunately,: all .the: theories are unprintable.!
