These students have been selected for meritorious work in the betterment of the school, and for a prominent part taken in extra-curricular activities. The occasion was that of the banquet given by Dr. and Mrs. Allen honoring Stetson's Cuban students. Special guests were Dr. and Mrs. Posada of Santiago de Cuba, parents of one of our freshmen girls, Gisela Posada. Those invited to bo with Dr. and Mrs. Allen included Dr. and Mrs. Posada, Dr. and Mrs. Garwood, Dr. Arjona, Dr. and Mrs. Duckwitz, Miss Foster, Miss Ruth Moore, Daniel Rodriquez, Gisela Posada, Joaquin Lopez de Quintana, and Margarita and Haydee Geli Trujello. Saludos amigos de Cuba! This photograph was taken last spring on an aerodome in England. A Lancaster bomber piloted by an American in the Royal Air Focre was taking off for Hildesheim, Germany, when a tire blew out on takeoff. His bomb load was fourteen thousand pounds, -his fuel load ! two thousand odd gallons of high octane. Hence the mushroom of fire. Under a microscope engines can be iednti- fied being blown through the air. Hildesheim received five hundred times the above explosion. CAMP, GANS SHARE 0R1ENTTAL ROLES A Chinese play, concerning a story of life, is to be presented at the Little Theatre on November 29 and 30. The Yellow Jacket was presented by the Thespians of Stetson University several years ago. The play has had successful runs in many foreign countries, including England,, Germany, and Spain, where it was earnestly appreciated and considered as the most successful adaptation of the form and spirit of the Chinese drama. The story of a young man's adventure through life, and all its critical stages, and temptations, is aptly directly by thc versatile Doctor Stover. Joe Camp, a newcomer to Stetson, plays the part of a young man, Wu Hoo Git, who finds it difficult to keep on the straight and narrow path when he meets Yen Suey Gong (Bert Gans), who attempts to sell him the vices of life. When Wu Hoo Git finds out that his Autumn Oloud, who he purchased from Yen Suey Gong loves only tlie gold he can give her, he destroys the merchant of women and departs in search of his ancestors Others taking part in the fantasy are: James F. This is the only national honorary co-educational ehemistry fraternity. It was founded at Davidson College, Davidson,, North Caroline, in 1919, and the Beta Beta chapter was organized at Stetson in 1932. Its purpose is to foster comprehensive and cooperative study of chemistry and its allied subjects. Newly initiated members are Jimmie Godwin, Ralph House, Joan Miller, Betsey Dibble, and Cortez" Tedder. The officers elected for the coming year are Grand Alchemist, Jimmie Godwin; Recorder, Cortez Tedder; Visor, Betsey Dibble; Electron of the Black Arts, Aalph nouse; and Alumni Secretary, Joan Miller. STRAUB, FORMER STUDENT, RECEIVES STATE GRATITUDE Campaigns Underway t Throughbut Stajte For Returned Veteran Ex Stetson student, ex Tamp* student, ex marine Paul Straub had both of his feet amputated in the south wtst Pacific. In compensation, and in heartfelt gratitude for his heroic deeds, Straub, of the sixth Marine division, has become the object of state-wide drives, in whieb, the state of Florida strives, in soma small way, to show Marine Straub, and many other of our returned men, that their efforts were appreciated. The Phi Kappa Phi fraternity and. Honor of Stetson University, are sponsoring a drive which opened November 12 and continues thruogb the 21st of the month. Any contributions, no matter how small, should be placed in the boxes inside the doorway of Elizabeth Hall. Your efforts will be appreciated. Straub went to Stetson University, where he was a popular member of the campus and well known football player. From Stetson he transferred to Tampa University, and from there h« enlisted in the marines for service in the South-west Pacific^ He lost his feet on Gaudal- canal when his marine division was training for the invasion of Iwo Jiina and Okinawa, under actual battle conditions. He intends to enroll for his senior year at the Tampa University, and has stated his desire to coach a football team, in the state of Florida, in spite of his handicap. Bouncing, 7-Pound Redhead Takes Over Campus Triple Threat To Manless Co-Eds Stetson's youngest student is two weeks old. She was born at the DeLand Memorial Hospital, a quiet, loveable redhead, promised to the Pi Phis sixteen years hence. Shortly after the new student was born she uttered three healthy yells, which sounded very much like "Stetson goes forward, Stetson goes forward, Stetson goes forward," then the nurse in charge of our new recruit tickled her on the nose, and she began to laugh. Tn less than two weeks she has been elected sweetheart of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, a Pi Phi pledge, promised, and has accumulated many fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts. She is thc daughter of Calvert R. and Pauline Dickson, and was christened Jamie Caline Dickson. The middle name, as a matter of interest, was derived from the first three letters of papa's name and the last three letters of mama's name. This, incidentally, is not a copy-righted feature.
