The University grounds: and the streets of the city will be gay with colored bunting, .and with the throngs of brightly-clad members 7of 'bands from other 'localities : which will participate in the big ■ ■parade preceding the Stetson- ilOglethorpe football game. .'. Three local bands will.be hosts 7tO the out-of-town musicians: | j triose- of Stetson University, the j!DeLand High School, and the De- iLand Junior band. Prof.. Bert Fish, Utjited States minister to Egypt, and Joe Hendricks, United States congressman, have accepted the invitation, of President W. S. "The Emperor Jones" Invades Little Theatre Stetson's Dr. Stover Presents O'Neill's Drama For Returning Alumni Emperor Jones tom-tomed into the Stover Little TTheatre last Thursday and Friday nights- leaving the large audience limp with lassitude. ^ ■ Eugene O'Neill's forceful, dramatic unfolding of the inhibitive soul and subconscious mind of Brutus Jones was: courageously if a trifle inadequately Undertaken by James Lumpkin. .; The opening scene reveled in the masterful touches of the astounding Segard who, as Henry Smithers, a renegade trader, gave the impressionistic fervor the drama needed. Lydia Theurer's superb original scenic designs produced a weirdly fascinating tone which : synchronised with cleverly diffused lighting. Each year Stetson has had a greater Homecoming Program, and we can assure you that our program for 1938 will be no exception. For weeks, our organization has been quietly at work, laying a solid foundation for what promises to be the most spectacular and most enjoyable two days in:,the history of this University. We have received the solid co-operation of the city of DeLand, its Civic organizations and business men, the Administration and student body of the University, and : every campus organization. Tom Cobb, Captain Phi Alpha'Delta, legal fratern-. ity entertained its alumni at a breakfast in the "Chamber of Commerce Building this morning. Judge. J. OUie Edmunds acted as toastjiiaster, aand several outstanding Floridians including Hon. Bert Fish, U. S. Minister to Egypt, Senator Claude Pepper, Representative Jo Hendricks, Judge H. B. Frederick, Ju<%e Millard B. Smith, Judge Elwyn Thomas, and J. Edwin Larson, collector of internal revenues were present. Judge H. Chapman of, the Florida Supreme Court was the speaker for the morning. Town Turned Over To Students And Graduates; Prominent Floridians Attend Outstanding alumni and friends of Stetson are expected on the campus for Homecoming week-end this year, and a full program has been prepared in anticipation of their arrival, according to -Tom Cobb, chairmaan of the Homecoming Committee. President William Sims Allen will welcome the visitors on Saturday morning at a special chapel service, and at this time he will .introduce the many distinguished guests of the University. The Stetson Glee Clubs, 109 young men and woman Under the direction of Professor Harold M. Giffin will sing the Russian chant "Hospodi Pomilui" by Lvovsky and v the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah." Professor Giffin will sing "Iris" by Wolf, and Eden's prophetic "What's... in the Air Today." ' , On Friday afternoon all the women's dormitories ■ observed Open; House.and tea was served in Chaudoin Parlors, Dean Lola B. McCollough and Miss Etter Turner received the guests and Betty Linson, Jane Taft, Alzada Bennett and Frances Coe poured. The Stover Theatre was host to alP~alumni and:. friends on Friday night with a presentation of Eugene O'Neill's drama "The Emperor Jones," produced, by Dr. Irving C. Stover and Mrs. Willie D. W. McEntire with Jimmie Lumpkin in the tide role. Later Friday evening Theta Alpha Phi, honorary dramatic fraternity entertained its alumni members with a banquet in the Stetson Commons. The annual Inter-Fraternity Sing was held in the Chaudoin Quadrangle, with the various Greek organizations competing for the Song Cup.
