Treasurer Is Soon By ANGIE WOHLFARTH Rob Oglesby, President of the Student Government, gave his first presidential report in Elizabeth Hall, Monday. After welcoming students back to Stetson, Oglesby presented some of the activities and plans of the S.G. for this 66-67 school year—paying particular attention to this fall semester and the new services which will be offered. s r * 1 1 I { i f !\ " t ; By MIKE THOMPSON Pi Kappa Phi fraternity of Stetson University was named The National Champion Chapter at the 31st meeting of the Supreme Chapter held in Miami Beach during the end of August. For the past two years Stetson's Pi Kapps, Chi Chapter, have been ranked at the head of all other Pi Kapps in the nation. National President Mel Metcalfe presented the award, a gold and white banner, at the Awards Banquet praising Chi Chapter for its "continuing excellence in leadership, scholarship, membership, publications, finance, and national office lia- son." He urged that other chapters strive to follow the example of Chi Chapter to maintain Pi Kappa Phi's tradition of excellence on college campuses citing especially, Chi's outstanding record of achievement in both scholarship and leadership on the Stetson campus. Individually recognized was Brother Elmer Jost for the fine job he has done in managing the chapter's finances. PLEASED AND HONORED Archon Pete O'Callaghan, • upon receiving the-award, said, "The Brother of Chi Chapter re both pleased and honored 3 receive this national recognition. We hope that we can ^continue to exemplify the high standards and goals which Pi Kappa Phi stands for and . which this award is intended to recognize." The high note of the convention was the model initiation of James Sandland, advisor to the Pi Kappa Phi colony at Athens College,, performed by the initiating team from Chi Chapter. The team consisted of Brothers Pete O'Callaghan, Nester DeArmas, Jack Butler, Scott Cooper, Elmer Jost, and Rick Branan. Chi Chapter continued its leadership of the biennial convention by winning two berths in the National Office when Charles Tom Henderson and James Golden, both. Chi alums, were elected National Treasurer and .National Historian, re-, spectively. ' . . ■ Annual Green. Feather Plans Drive Soon Stetson University's annual Green Feather Charity Drive will kick-off activities on Monday, Sept. 26, according to Jack Dawson, co-chairman for the drive. This year's drive will feature a dance, the annual carnival, a beauty contest, a Pancake Day, and the dormitory collections. Goal for the Green Feather is $6,666 in 1966 which is $666 above the 1965 goal. Green Feather is the United Fund (Continued On Page 2) The Student Used Book Exchange, run by Russ Buchan, is one of the several new services. Elmore Philpot and Mary Curtis Upshaw will direct a Records and Research Committee which will investigate and make public information from local and national news media. Surveys of student opinions and preferences will be studied by the Contact Committee, headed by Mike Raymond. The fourth new service that Oglesby mentioned is a Travel Bureau, headed by Elmore Philpot. which will make arrangements for those people needing rides on various functions. Oglesby proudly announced the future arrival • of ■ the State Convention of the Southern Universities Student Government Association (SUSGA), on November 18 and 19. Delegates from all member colleges and universities in this state plus some from observer- schools will gather at Stetson's cam-- pus and will be invited to a poolside band party and the S. G. Elections Will Be Held Late This September Frosh Senate And Treasurer Seek Vote By JOAN SIMMONS Candidates for freshman senator and treasurer of the Student Government may now register for the fall elections. Registration is being held in room 213 of the Student Union Building each weekday from 1:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m. This registration will continue through Tuesday September 13. All freshmen who .have a "C" averagae for their high school work are eligible to run in this Senate election. Four freshmen senators who will be- cme members of the SGA Senate will be chosen. Qualifications necessary for the Student Government treasurer are that the student must be a junior or senior and have had two semesters of accounting plus the proper grade average. Voting for this office will be at the same times in the same location as for the freshman elections. A four dollar refundable fee is required of all candidates. No checks will be accepted for this fee. Active campaigning will begin Setember 20. On September 26 a freshmen assembly will be. held during which all candidates will be introduced., Voting in the primary election will be September 27 in the SUB from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 Eight finalists will be chosen at this time. Mrs. Sowers was the wife of Dr. Ray V. Sowers, former head" of the education department and now Professor of Education. She was active in the University Woman's Club and Trinity Methodist Church. She will be greatly' missed by the' Stetson community.. - first S.C. concert of the year. Following is the tentative schedule: Friday, October 21, starts off with Alumni Registration at 3 p.m. Afterwards at 3:30 comes the long-awaited Powder Puff Football Game played by the 'ruff 'tuff coeds on campus. Friday night at 9:30 Presents a choice of entertainment between the "Roaring Twenties Follies" in Elizabeth Hall and the play, "Love Rides the Rails" in Stover Theater, i Saturday morning beings bright and early at 9 with seminars in the various departments, emphasizing contemporary affairs and practical application of liberal arts and business in the present day. Saturday afternoon is highlighted by the annual Homecoming Parade at 2 followed by the soccer game between the Stetson Hatters and Rollins of Winter Park. Saturday night winds up with a repeat of the play in Stover Theater and the Homecoming Dance in Daytona featuring the Illusions. Sunday appropriately ends Homecoming with a film and discussion of the book. The Gospel According to Peanuts; led by the author, Mr. Robert Short. All this promises to make Homecoming the outstanding event of the school year, according to the homecoming chairmen.
