(News Bureau Photo) DIALOGUE '67 Political Figures To Debate Issues At First Political Emphasis Week By FRED YORK DIALOGUE 67, Student Government's first • Political Emphasis Week, will feature five outstanding experts on current political issues. Round table discussions with audience participation, classroom visitations, and informal dinners will be included in the four day program April 3-6. "The purpose of the program is to let students establish a dialogue with political figures; to become acquainted with the people who make policies and to react to' them." Co-chairmen John Hicks and Darlene Walker told The Reporter. Included on the program will be William A. Rusher, publisher of The National Review, the nationally respected conservative journal of opinion; The Hon. Brooks Hays, former Con-" gressman and • adviser to three Presidents; and Dr. William Carlton, Chairman of the Political Science Department at the University of Florida and a well-known writer at the University of Florida and a well-known writer in the field of foreign affairs. The Hon. George- Smathers of Florida, Military Ball Slated son Room By DEAN BUNCH The 1967 Military Ball, sponsored by Scabbard and Blade Honorary and by the Stetson ROTC unit, will be' held tonight in the Stetson Room from 8:30 until 12 midnight. Dress for the eyent will be formal. The Third U.S. Army Dance Band will be featured and will play both contemporary and polular music. Six candidates for the title of Queen of the Military Ball will be presented during the dance and voting will take place by secret ballot at that time to ■ determine the Queen. The can didates, who were nominated by being chosen sponsors for the four ROTC companies and Scabbard and Blade and Pershing Rifles are: Nancy Mills, Kris Kane, Sandra Williams, Dee Lewis, Sue Beavo, and Kay Harmeling. During the intermission, nek - pledges for Scabbard and Blade, the national advanced military honorary, will be tapped. Hosting the dance will be the members of Scabbard and Blade and the Professor of Military Science at Stetson, Lt. Colonel David D. McCorvey. The Ron. Rounding out the program will be a special assis- (Continued on Page 2) Stetson University, maintaining its tradition of excellence in the preparation of potential college teachers, has five new .Woodrow Wilson Fellows in its senior class. Announcement of the 1,259 Fellowship recipients for 1967-68 was made Wednesday by the Woodrow National Fellowship Foundation of Princeton, N.J. Seteson's winners, notified of their selection at a surprise coffee in their honor this morning are: Richard F. Knapp, Ft. Lauderdale;; Douglas D. Short, Daytona Beach; Jay Edmund Mechling, Miami Beach; Jat- quelene B. Manning, West Palm Beach; "and Wilma Lou Yates, Ft. Lauderdale. Mary F. Prichard of DeLand received Honorable Mention. Letters of award were presented to the winners by William Hugh McEniry, Jr., dean of the University. Assisting in the presentation was Dr. Carter Colwell, professor of English and Woodrow Wilson campus representative at Stetson. Stetson University students have now received a total of 38 Woodrow Wilson Fellowships since the University began par- - ticipating in the program se- -veral years ago. In proportion to student enrollment, Stetson leads all other colleges and universities in District VI (Alabama, Florida, Georgia and- South Carolina) in the percentage of students receiving the coveted "awards over the life of the Fellowship Program. The tabulation of Wilson Fellows for 1967 at other Florida colleges is: New College, five; Florida Presbyterian, one; University of Miami, four; Jacksonville University, one; Florida State, five; University of Florida, nine; University of South Florida, two. In other Southern schools, Emory received five; University of Georgia, three; and Georgia Tech one. Dean McEniry told the assembled group Wednesday morning that candidates for a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship undergo an extensive screening process and only ' the top students are selected. He singled out the academic accomplishments of each winner. Those selected will receive one academic year of graduate education (with tuition and fees, paid by the Foundation), living stipend of $2,000 and allowances for dependent children. In addition, the Foundation will award a supplementary grant to the graduate school were each Fellow chooses to enroll — to be used for the most part for fellowships to advanced graduate (Continued On Page 2) Quiz Bowl Competition Very Strong By DEAN BUNCH NEWS EDITOR The Quiz Bowl finished up its second week of action this week. Carson Annex, Palms I. Hon Hall,- Palmer House, the Millard Fillmore Alpha Zi Delta, Phi Alpha Theta, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Alpha Chi Omega, and the Baptist Student Union were first round winners. The Quiz Bowl is held in room 5-L of the Library every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 6 to 7:15 P.M. and is sponsored by the Phi Society, Stetson's scholastic honorary. Results are posted in the lobby of the SUB and all matches are announced on the bulletin board by the post office. Hon Hall has held the winner's trophy for the last two years and are favorites to retain the title. The Palms and Carson Annex are also fielding strong teams this year. Carson Annex is led by one of last year's leading scorers, Jim Roth. The Palms has two teams and placed second in last year's competition. Students are invited to attend all matches. EEKLY CALENDAR!
