PRESIDENT EDMUNDS RESIGNS
Dr. J. Ollie Edmunds. President of
Stetson University, formally announced
his resignation to the faculty and administration Friday evening in the Stetson Room.
The Board of Trustees had accepted Dr.
Edmunds' resignation at their meeting
Friday morning.
Dr. Edmunds told The Reporter that
his resignation will become effective "as
quickly as the Board can find my successor. "
In his letter of resignation submitted
to former Governor Doyle E. Carlton,
Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Dr.
Edmunds cited the need to spend more time
in the management of his timber interests
in California, as the reason for his resignation. "For nearly twenty years, two
business associates have looked after my
personal affairs in California while I have
devoted my time to my college affairs. In
fairness to these partners, the time has
arrived when I must spend more time
looking after my own interests. "
In accepting the resignation, the Trus -
tees "unanimously voted to extend to Dr.
Edmunds deep and heartfelt appreciation
for the dedicated service he has rendered
to the University during the twenty years
he has served as President. "
In recognition of his service and in a
desire to have Dr. Edmunds maintain the
closest possible relationship with the Uni
versity, they also voted unanimously to
activate the position of Chancellor of the
University, and to elect Dr. Edmunds to
this position when his resignation becomes
effective. His responsibilities in this new
position would be to promote and foster
the best interests of Stetson University in
Florida and throughout the United States.
He would serve in such additional responsibilities as might be assigned to him by
the Board of Trustees and the new President of the University.
"As I leave, " said Dr. Edmunds, "I
must make clear to my staff, colleagues
and students that my leaving will not affect my love and concern for the University
in the slightest. Stetson University is my
Alma Mater. If the new President will permit me, I hope to prove that this love and
concern for my foster mother continues
real and genuine. "
