Will Be Vice Chancellor At New Charlotte Campus By FRED YORK Dr. William Hugh McEniry has resigned as Dean of the University to, accept the position, of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the Charlotte Campus: of the University of North Carolina. Announcement of the Dean's appointment was released over AP' wires Friday "night and confirmed by the Dean upon his return to campus Monday. His resignation will become effective some time this summer. The Charlotte campus was activated two years ago as the fourth branch of a state-wide university system. Other branches are at Chapel Hill, Greensboro, and Raleigh. The new campus has four buildings, all less than two years old, and a student body of 1600. In speaking of his resignation, the Dean - told The Re- : porter, "I have spent 27 very happy years at Stetson. Despite the opportunity and the challenge I am answering in North Carolina, I feel a very real sadness in leaving Stetson. I know .he University will continue to grow in strength — that the student body, faculty, and administration, working with the Trustees, will make Parents Weekend Schedule- 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. By ANGE SHURLEY The seventh Annual Parents' Weekend will officially begin at 4:00 p.m: Friday, March 3. Originated in. 1960 to promote "Parent-Student-Teacher" interests and relationships, GOD parents and relatives are expected to register, this ye'ai. . Appointed by" the President of the Student Body, Jack Butler and Connie Carefoot have piloted the plans for this year's weekend. The un-ol'ficial theme of programs will be "College Life in the 1920's." ENTERTAINMENT Several committees have been hard at work to produce a week-end to be enjoyed and remembered by all. "A Night at the Follies" will be a feature attraction both nights. Don Jackson and a crew of enthusiastic and talented students are working up a fabulous show you won't want to miss! Also Friday and Saturday nights, through the cooperative efforts of the Music School and the Stover Theater group, there will be presentations of "The Marriage of Figaro." The sets for the opera were designed and constructed as part of the senior drama major's project. . It' promises to be an excellent piu duction. Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., all are invited to a seated luncheon to be held in the cafeteria. This will be a. new procedure, as in the past parents were i s s u e d complimentary meal tickets for this tri eal. With the old method, designed- to give parents a realistic view of college life, the lines proved to be terrible traffic jams. In order to prevent this tangle, and to make the meal more enjoyable, we will forego the line. Anyone not wishing to eat at this time will be asked to pick up a boxed lunch in the cafeteria at an earlier hour. However, please do not feel your parents must be there for you to join the fun. Another advantage to . this year's luncheon will be the opportunity to hear a really wonderful speaker. Our President, J. He served as chairman of the English department and the Division of Hur inanities. In 1948 he became chairman of .he Graduate Council; he served in this capacity until 1958 while also serving as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts since 1952. He became '(Continued on Page 2) Oil Portrait Will Honor Edmunds Dean Etter Turner has agreed to act as custodian of the funds for a movement initiated by The Stetson Reporter to place an oil portrait of President J. . OUie Edmunds in the Student Lounge of the Stetson Union - Building. Reporter Editor Fred York announced that campus organizations as well as individuals may make contributions through Dean." Turner's office,. making checks payable to Stetson University. The Reporter' initiated - the fund with a contribution. York's announcement came after Dr. Edmunds announced his resignation at a faculty dinner-Friday night. He will be relieved of his duties as soon as a new president has. been selected. ^ A committee c omposed of five University trustees, E. H. Price, Jr., Charles W. Campbell, B. S. Reid, Earl B. Eding- ton and Malcolm B. Knight will select the new president. The Trustee group will be chaired by Campbell, and will be aided by Faculty Senate chairman Richard Pearce and Harry F. Garylord. The trustee group w ill be Edmunds' resignation, voted unanimously to name him the University's first chancellor. In this post the president will have sucli fund-raising duties. as; are assigned him by • the Trustees and the new president. York said that a committee will be named to complete plans for the portrait when $1500 has been raised.
