Ollie Edmunds.' ■ ' State's Music Teachers Hold Annual Convention The Florida State Music Teachers Association willl hold its 32nd annual convention on the Stetson University campus on October 30 through November 1. Stetson music students and faculty will be active par ticipants along with many dis tinguished guests. Dr. Vincent Persichetti, head of the 'composition faculty ol the Juilliard School of Music, and a noted composer, will be the guest artist and principal clinician at the convention. Dr. Persichetti will conduct band, orchestra, and chorus as well as lecture on "Materials of the American Covoser." AUTHOR AND COMPOSER Dr. Persichetti studied principally with Fritz' Reiner and Olga Samaroff and graduted from Combs College, Philadelphia Conservatory and Curits Institute. He joined the faculty at Juilliard in 1947. He has in addition to teaching authored many articles and several books, notabley Twentieth Century harmony. He has composed more than 100 pieces of music, several of which will be performed during, the course of the weekend. Mrs. Persichettie will also be a guest of the convention. Mrs. Persichetti, who has served as Dean of Graduate Studies at Philadelphia Music Academy, is currently lecturing, teaching, and performing around the country. Mr. Richard Cass, pianist, who performed on the October 27th Artists and Lecturers program will be featured on the Monday night concert, one ol the high points of the convention. The orchestra concert will begin at 8:15 p.m. in Elizabeth Hall and there will be an un reserved section for students who wish to attend. Under the direction of Dr. Persichetti, the Stetson Orchestra and Concert Choir will be performing his setting of the "Te Deum." Other distinguished person nel of the convention will include: Mr. Willis Bodine, assistant professor of music at the University of Florida and concert organist; Dr. Larry Zingale -of Miami-Dade Junior College; Dr. Gomer Pound, State research chairman for the Mississippi Music Edutat (Continued On Page 2) Seminary Day November 5 A Seminary Day for all stu dents interested in church related vocations will be con ducted on the Stetson campus Saturday, Nov. 5. The program includes personal interviews, a panel discussion, and a banquet Saturday night. Interviews will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Stetson Room, followed by a panel discussion by visiting guests at 4 p.m. The Seminary Day is sponsored by the Stetson Ministerial Association, and Curtis Tutterow is in charge of the program for the Association. It is open to all students interested in any church related vocation and other prospective ministerial students from local 'churches. The 5:50 banquet is by invitation of the Ministerial Association, or a person may request the privilege -by contacting Curtis Tutterow or Mr. Jack Mabry in the Baptist Student Union. Band Will Perform At Cross Dedication The Stetson University Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Richard Feasel. will perform at an interdenominational servi'ce in St. Augustine Sunday. October 30, at 1:30 p.m. The service will dedicate^- the new cross for the. Mission ■ of Nombre de Dios. Twenty thousand people are expected to view the dedication of the , Great Illuminated Cross which stands on the site of the first worship service in the New World.
