Mat Week Starts Today; S" Club To Guide Many Activities naff Men's Rat Week "formally" be-*' gins today with the "S" Club and upperclassmen guiding the freshmen through a week of varied events. Each day the "boys", as they will become for seven days, will be dressed in different attire, ranging from rain coats to their "Sunday "oest." Each boy will wear a sign declaring "I am a lowly rat" and will be prepared to sing any school song when asked to do so by an upperclassman. Tomorrow night all boys will meet in the Chaudoin Quadrangle *>t seven dressed in dungairees, white shirt, and bow tie. They will jarch to the football game and vill sit together in a body in Municipal Stadium. They will be requested to perform during the half-time intermission. Mision of the day Tuesday will be that of carrying trays at the evening meal in the Commons .vhile on Wednesday the index finger of the right hand must be kept on the button of the rat cap it all times. The annual pajama parade •tirough downtown DeLand on Thursday night will be climaxed y the final event of the week, Rat •Jourt. Eeporter Meeting For New Students Any student interested in work- jg on THE REPORTER staff is asked to attend a meeting Monday afternoon at 3:30 in the publications office, located in the north wing basement of the Science Hall. A variety of work is available and persons who are journalism majors or have worked on other papers are urged to attend the meeting. New Yells Sought By Cheering Squad "Ready'o let's go"—with some new yells, all you Hatters! Transfers — freshmen — everyone with originality — how's about giving the cheerleaders a helping hand in their search" for new. spirited cheers! With an eye on the coming big games, topped by Homecoming, Stetson's cheering squad is planning to introduce several fresh, enthusiastic yells, according to Barbara Rutter, head cheerleader. Urging student participation in helping to find the cheers best suited for' the Hatters, they are sponsoring a contest for the 'best yell or chant. Recognition will be given the person or group submitting the winning yell, which will be chosen on the basis appropriateness and pep. Between today and Wednesday, October 15, a small megaphone will be placed in the soda shop for entries and suggestions. Forms may be obtained in Dean Hoods office. pplications Now Available For Deferment Test Applications for the December 4, 1952 and the April 23, 1953 administrations of the College Qualification Test are now available at Selective Service boards, the Selective Service Examining Section has announced. Eligible students who intend to offer this test on either date should apply at once to the Selective Service local board for an application and a bulletin of information. The applications for the December 4 test must be postmarked no later than midnight, November 1, 1952. According to Educational Testing Service, which prepares and administers the Colleg Qualification Test for. the Selective Service System, it will be to the student's advantage to file his application at once, regardless of the testing date he selects. The results will be reported to the student's Selective Service local board of jurisdiction for use in considering his deferment as a student. Krewe And Honor Meet Together Monday Night There will be a combined meeting of Ye Mystic Krewe and The Honor at 6:30 p.m. Monday, October 13, in the Allen Hall conference room. leveraS Changes ■ nnotH-ced For 152 Homecoming Several new ideas for Homecoming have been announced. Chairman Don Eakin and his Committee met with Dr. Edmunds and Professor John Johns, faculty advisor to the 1952 Homecoming Committee, last week to get the initial plans under way. One of the greatest improvements over the schedule in the past years will be the hoped-for weekend of non-conflicting events. "All organizations that plan to entertain during the three events. "All organizations that plan to entertain during the three days please have their party or program cleared through the Homecoming Committee," requests Eakin. Eakin. Ted Grissett, or Carroll Lewis can place the event on the calendar. Another innovation is "planned by Harry Rutledge for the parade. Rutledge and Ye-Mystic Krewe are running the parade in the morning instead of the usual afternoon. The parade will begin at 10:00 at the south end of the Boulevard and end on campus to avoid the confusion of past years. Ticket-Takers To Meet All men who are to work as ticket sellers, takers, or ushers at the Stetson football games please meet with Coach Cowell a -few minutes after chapel Friday in the auditorium. If you haven't signed up and want to work, please attend this meeting. Tri Beta Plans New Room ' Beta Beta Beta held its 'first meeting of the year last Tuesday during which plans for a new club room were discussed. Dick Toole, Bob Wilber. Ann Gatlin and Robert Andy make up the committee to get the work underway. The new club room will be a part of the advanced Biology laboratory on the third floor of Elizabeth Hall. Pan=Hellenic Tea Opens Sorority Rushing Following three weeks of pre- rushing, Formal Rush season for Stetson's five national sororities begins Sunday, with the annual Pen-Hellenic Tea honoring rushees fn the suites of the Pan-Hellenic Building. After this initial event, rushing will continue until Saturday, October 25. From October 14 - October 16, sororities will hold informal invitational coke parties in the suites. Under a new Pan-Hellenic ruling, these parties are to have no planned entertainment, but group singing is permitted. According to Carolyn Daniel, Pan-Hellenic president, the purpose of this new procedure is to give the sorority girls an opportunity to become better acquainted with the rushees, and to cut down on the expense to the sororities. Formal parties, carrying out themes chosen by individual sororities, will be- held from October 20- October 24. During this time a strict "silent period between campus Greeks and rushees will be observed. Preferential snack parties will be held in the suites Saturday, October 25, from 12:30-1:30. Climaxing the two weeks' activities, preferential cards will be signed in the Council Room of Chaudoin Hall from 3:00-3:30, and bids will be issued from 4:30-5:00. Tuesday, October 2S, has been designated by the Pan-Hellenic Council -as the day of formal pledg- Nominations for class arid school offices will be announced in assembly this morning by George Stedronsky, chairman of the Rules and Procedure Committee. The nominees read in assembly will have passed the eligibility rules made by the Committee and will be officially running for office. One ballot box will be used in the Art Gallery in Elizabeth Hall. Official checkers will mark off the voters names as they vote BULLETIN The floor will be open Friday, October 17, for nomination of candidates running for Homecoming Mayor and Hostess, by secret ballot. The hours for voting will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14. Officers to be selected are president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the respective classes and schools. The elections will be regulated by the Rules and Procedure Committee. Qualifications for president of the senior class, Colleges of Liberal Arts, Schools of Business and Music, are: Candidate shall be at least a first semester senior not to graduate earlier than June, and not on academic probation. For election, the candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast. If no majority is received on the first ballot, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be voted on again. Oct 13-17 To Me Prayer Week Prayer Emphasis Week will be observed on Stetson's campus October 13-17, under the sponsorship of the BSU, according to John Temisheck, chairman of the planning committee. Following the theme, "Abide In Me", activities will be climaxed by a candlelight prayer-mate service in the Forest of Arden Thursday night. Vesper speakers for the week will be Adriean Rodgers. Harriett Stone, Redden Thane, and John Temischeck.
