Defeat of Last Year Completely Wiped Out Yesterday. Great Preparations Being Made for 22nd.—Cheer Squads Busy. Several mass-meetings of the students have been recently held and the enthusiasm and "pep" L with which the yells are given brings joy to the hearts of the old men. On Saturday last Prof. Tingley, at the request of Dr. Hulley journeyed to Jacksonville to consult with Mr. Ebenfield of Mercer and the recently formed collegiate athletic committee of Jacksonville as to the advisability of transferring the Mercer-Stetson game to the Florida metropolis. As a result of this consultation Stetson will make her football debut in Jacksonville, and the lovers of the gridiron sport in that city are guaranteed one of the best games of the season if not the best, as Mercer always has been a strong rival of the Green and White athletes, as last year's close score of 6-5 would indicate. Regular cheer leaders have been appointed. Gautier, Haskins and Weir have been selected to do the fantastic work and instill the good old time spirit into the Stetson student body and the football squad as they face the Alligators on the 22nd. These men have taken hold of their work with vigor and the students are daily practising under their tutelage. The yells are becoming faster and snappier and every indication points towards a successful game as far as the side line efforts can contribute towards it. The meeting held Monday evening in the gym. was well attended, altho a large number of old men were absent. Several of thj yells were rehearsed and the announcement of a special train for Jacksonville for the game Friday was given. Every man who possibly could get away was urged to go, as Stetson must make as 'large showing Continued on Page 5 Once more the winged bird of victory is perched on the banners of Green and White, and Mercer the place where everyone plays football returned to their homes at Macon, Ga., with a wholesome respect for Stetson. The game was a hair raiser from beginning to end, and it was not until the last two minutes of play that we were assured of victory, when Snedigar our pride and joy tucked the pigskin under his arm and ran 57 yards for a touchdown. Pandi- monium broke loose, and the Stetson rooters simply went wild. Barrs field has never seen a period of greater joy. The teams lined up for a bit of signal practice, which was very fast and brisk. At 3:10 the captains were called together to choose goals. Mercer won the toss, and chose to defend the north goal. First Quarter. Snedigar kicked to the 32 yard line on the kick off. Cochrane on a short run fails to make a gain. Forrester makes no gain. Sams kicks to Stetson's 32 yard line. Padgett on a tackle over play fails to gain. Sned is called upon and fails to carry the ball any distance. Snedigar kicks 40 yards. Forrester makes 8 yards through the line and Cochrane makes it first down. Parker makes 2 yards thru line, and Sams adds 2 more. Here Forward pass was tried, but was unsuccessful. Sams then kicks to Hodgden. Sned lost 4 yards. Hogie made 5 yards through line, and Liddell adds 2 more. Here Snedigar kicks 25 yds. Paul advances 3 yards, Sammons adds 2 more. Cochrane is thrown for a 3 yard loss. Here Stetsom secured the ball but was the next moment penalized 20 yards for holding, which put the ball within 3 yards of the goal line Stetson was defending. Here Snedigar punted to Sale, who signalled for a fair catch, but a Stetson man not seeing the signal tackled him, and i again is a a penalty of 10 yards J was inflicted on Stetson. On next play Sales made 3 yards, Forrester made 2 more, and Cochrane added 4 to that. On the next play Forrester on a tackle over tackle play went 15 yards for the first score of the game which came after 10 minutes of play. Mercer failed at goal. Score Mercer 6, Stetson 0. Snedigar kicked to Sammons. Cochrane fails to gain. Parker makes 4 yards and on a forward pass Sams to Sammons 20 yards more was added. Time was called for the first quarter, with the ball in the middle of the field. Second Quarter. Parker made 3 yards through the line. Sammons was thrown for loss of 3 yards. Here mercer was penalized 10 yards. Cochrane failed to gain. Here Liddell intercepted a forward pass, and Stetson secured the ball thereby. Hogie made 2 yards through the line. Albritton on a tackle play makes 8 more. Here Willard is injured and takes time. Hugley goes out and Price takes his place. Sned makes 2 yards. On a forward pass Merritt via Snedigar 15 yards was added. Sned fails to gain, and Liddell does likewise. Here Mercer secured the ball. Sales makes 2 yards, and on the next play Cochrane adds 20 more. On the next two plays 4 yards is made. Cochrane on the next play is thrown for a loss. In the tackle Willard is injured and Kid Stanley takes his place at end. Sams kicks to Snedigar who returns the punt 25 yards. Hogie makes 5 yards through the line. Liddell fails to make a gain. Padgett makes a yard. Here a fake place kick was called for but the signals were balled up and Snedigar managed to advance the ball 8 yards, but couldn't make the required distance and the ball went to Mercer. Cochrane made 10 yards, Parker made 5 more, and Forrester came back with 3 more. Parker made it first down, and Sammons made 2 yards more. Time was Continued on Page 7 HALLOWE'EN PARTY ANNUAL EVENT TOOK PLACE FRIDAY IN CHAUDOIN. Enioyable Time Spent in Parlors of Coed Dormitory. | In accordance with old custom , the Annual Masquerade on Hal- ■ lowe'en night, took place in Chau- ' doin parlors, Friday the 31st of \ October and early in the evening ! the rooms began to be thronged ! with disguises of every character imaginable. Clowns, witches, sailors, convicts, darkies, all mingled in confusion as the swarm was constantly augmented. The Committee on Decoration with Miss Angle as chair-lady did itself proud. The rooms were fairylike with feathery bamboo and many colored lights. Many and varied were the amusements doped out by the committee on entertainment, led by Miss Lewis and these varied from fortune telling and fishing for souvenirs to the Punch and other delicious eats. At 8:30 the grand' march began, led by Miss Bates of Jax and Mr. Frank Turnquist. This lasted for some time and included about seventy-five couples. The prize for the cleverest costume was adjudged to the Auto- matum, worn by Mr. Ludlow tho Mr. Tribble, as the Cream of Wheat man came in for second money. At a late hour the gentle tinkle of the Belle broke up the party. o Yell Meeting. A Yell Meeting was called by the Cheer Leaders, Messrs. Weir, Haskins and Gautier. The practice was well attended though too many of the older students were notable thru their absence. This is a serious matter. How much a good cheer helps in winning the game, no one but a foot ball man can tell you. Enthusiasm without system is of little use so attend the Yell meetings and follow your leader in getting to- ; gether.
