THE RESERVES vs. SUMMERLIN
Reserves won the toss and kicked off to
Summerlin. Davis received the ball on their
ten yard line and returned it 15 yards. The
forward pass was tried but it was incomplete.
Forward pass again but no gain. They failed
to make their down—Stetson's ball. Brass
tackle over rive yards. Farris aroutid end
five yards. Gross on quarter back run six
yards but was pen—fifteen yards. No gains.
Summerlin's ball. Dunn fumbled but recovered the ball. No gain. Dunn twelve yards
around left end. Merrit G. around right end
two yds. Merrit through line ten yards. Marquis two yds. Sumlin fumbled and Stetson's
ball.
Farris three yards. Brass tackle over two
yds. Gross no gain. Gross two yds. Laugh-
berg four yds. Farris two yds. Padgett no
gain. Farris two yds. with no interference.
Sumlin offside pen—five yds. Farris four yds.
Stetson punted and Sumlin received the ball
on their fifteen yd. line. Marquis tackled by
Brass for three yd. loss. This ended the first
quarter. Ball in Sumlin's territory all the
time.
Score—0—0.
Second Quarter.
The second quarter was largely a repetition
of the first the ball being in Summerlin's territory after the first few downs. "Pinkey"
Braunch starred in this quarter together with
Merriitt of Summerlin. Forward passes were
tried by Summerlin to no advantage. Dunn
fumbled the ball and Milam recovered it. Davis
hurdled, was penalized 15 yds. The quarter
closed score 0—0.
Third Quarter.
Reserves kicked to Summerlin. S
began to get busv with vim. Merritt starring
for Summerlin, as usual. Reserves tried a
couple of forward passes—the first of which
was incomplete. The second would have ended
O. K. had not Dunn illegally, so said, disturbed
' Pinkey"—running for a touchdown. Hard
scrapping. Summerlin punted to Farris who
returned 15 yds thru a crowded field.
Quarter ended 6—0.
Fourth Quarter.
In the fourth Summerlin kicked to Reserves.
"Pinkey" no gain. Reserves punted. Summerlin penalized 15 yds and punted to Farris.
Gross was called for 8 yds. Padgett no gain.
Forward pass incomplete. Reserves punted.
Merritt 3 yds. Tillman thru line for touchdown. 12—0.
Reserves kicked to Summerlin—with a series
of line plunges gained 12yds—failed to make
next down and punted behind Reserves' goal.
Summerlin fell on ball for a touch-down. 17—0.
Reserves kicked to .Summerlin and for the
few moments
left
both teams
fought hard.

The" Athletic Assoc, has decided to boost
two phases of athletics which have heretofore
been neglected. It is encouraging both basket
ball and tennis among the young men. That
this is a popular movement is proved by the
hearty response of the young men in these
departments to the call
only this but the entire student body seems
happy over the prospects and is interested in
the practise games.
But as manager of the basket ball team I
must confine my remarks to basket ball. P'ur-
ther reason for this is; am trying to forget the
way "Big Sepueedunk" "put it over" me at the
opening of the tennis temrnament now in progress.
I was glad to notice the eagerness of the fellows to begin basket ball practice. They could
hardly wait for the baskets to be installed.
This is che proper spirit, and I want, right now,
to express my appreciation of it. Keep it up,
fellows. Don't let your interest wane. Our
success will depend upon your loyalty and stick-
to-it-iveness. Our Gym equipment for practise
is second to none in this state—and that h
putting it mildly. Let us show our appreciation for these things by putting out the best
team in Florida.
A good schedule is being arranged. We are
trying to get games with the University of
Floriela, Rollins, Jacksonville, St. Augustine,
Palatka, Orlando and Southern College. These
places all boast of strong teams. They will
test our ability for every team in the state considers it a greater honor to win from Stetson
than from any other.
The young ladies have established a good
record in basket ball. We can afford to do
no less. Let us try to do even better than they.
This is easier said than done; so let us work
hard.
Our prospects are good. About fifteen men
have so far reported for practise, and more are
expected to come out.
Taylor, Vinson, McDermond, Phillips and
possibly several others have had previous experience, and are playing gcod ball. But when
it comes time to choose a team it will be a
difficult task, for all, both new and old, are
showing good playing ability.
No one knows who will make the team, so
practise hard and faithfully; by so doing you
may be selected to represent your University.

The Epworth League of the M. E. church
arranged a most novel and enjoyable evening's
entertainment, last Friday. Those who attended this function had a splendid time.
Great credit is due the managers and promoters.
Miss C. Waterman (upon entering the library and seeing the palms)—"Oh, I would just
love to be married in here!"
Mr. Bly says no one can appreciate this who
did not see the expression of Miss Waterman's
face and her enraptured gaze and gestures.
