Stetson Baseball Team
Nears Championship Goal.
Page Pitches First Shutout Game of the
Season.
Wild Bill Page, the living skeleton,
the human hair pin, on last Friday
proudly drew from his pocket the key
to the pitcher's box of the Southern
College diamond, unlocked and ascended the mound.
You have seen a war horse with angry eye, and dilated nostril stamp and
paw the ground in hrs Impatience to
rush upon the foe and trample under
foot his helpless victims. That same
eye and impatient look one could see
as Handsome Bill delivered his
warming up balls before the first
Southern man came to bat, and it was,
that blood-thirsty eye which told
Southern her victorious triumphant*
were ours.
Page struck out three men, gave
one base on balls and only allowed Southern four hits, and' they
were well scattered. His team played
jamb-up ball behind him making only
one error, which was a hard chance
to left field.
Southern also had a "Jim-dandy"
kid pitcher, who struck out 13 Stetson men and allowed only five hits
but his team did not give him the
support at the critical time that Page
had during the entire game. The
game from start to finish was a pitcher's ball and while there is no doubt
Cecil is a pitcher, where the rub
comes in is that Old Bill is simply a
whole water set.
Second Game.
The second game was a very different contest from the one played
on Friday for both teams hit the ball
on the nose and scores ran high.
Stevens went in the bov for Stetson
and McMullen for Southern, both
gave the opposing aggregation 8 hits.
But here is where the ability to steal
bases, to bunt and to use the noodle
gave Stetson the game. There were
several boneheads that might be put
down but they will be left out until
next time.
We cannot say too much for the
courtesy shown us by Coach Burleson and his gentlemanly bunch.
Sutherland is a small place and the
chance for entertainment small but
they did their darn'est and every man
on the Stetson team returned saying
that he had had the time of his life.

Stetson Wins from Orlando in Second
of Championship Series.
The basket ball game of Saturday,
March 12th, between Orlando High
School and Stetson University was
one of the most intensely interesting
of the season's games-
This game was the second of a
series of three games for the State
championship, which is now held by
Orlando.
The Orlando team entered into the
game confident of winning, as they
had defeated Stetson in the first game
of the series.
The friends of the Stetson team
had decorated the gymnasium in the
colors of the school, the green and
white giving a gala appearance to the
scene. The colors of the two teams
were seen flying among the spectators. The crowd seeming almost
evenly divided.
The teams entered the field amid
a shout of applause, and when the
whistle blew, they quickly took their
places for the game.
During the first half, the excitement
vvas intense. Orlando made the first
score on a foul called on Stetson.
Tins only intensified the feeling on
both sides. Orlando had scored three
when Stetson made a basket, then a
foul," and the score was even. This
was kept up all through the first half.
and when time was called the score
stood thirteen to thirteen.
At the beginning of the second half
both teams seemed as if they were
on fire. The first ball was captured
by Orlando but (Stetson's center was
quick, and had the ball before it left
the center field, and a basket was
made, bringing the score to fifteen.
The score kept even until after the
sixteenth point, then Stetson began
to gain.
The Orlando team did good work
especially the center Miss Noma,
who was cool all through the game.
Miss Smith and Mis.. LocKhart deserve special mention. Miss Lock-
hart for throwing fouls and Miss
Smith for long distance goals.
