No. 5 Stetson Wins Great Game from University of Florida Score: Stetson 26, University of Florida 0 In a game replete with sensational playing in which the Stetson men were invariably the stars, Stetson defeated the fast team from the University of Florida by the score of 26 to o. Playing a game that marked them the equal of (Stetson's famous '05 team, the wearers of the gray jerseys took sweet revenge for the loss of the championship last year to Florida. The most spectacular feature of the game was the 75 y<'ird run of Capt. Pound's in returning E. Taylor's kick- off at the beginning of the game. This was not only the most spectacular run ever made in Florida but should rank with the famous dashes that go to make football history throughout the country. It marks the Stetson captain as undoubtedly the best broken field runner that ever defended the honor and upheld the glory of the green and white. Other features were Hendry's 40 yard run for a touchdown; jSnedigar's field line backing and punting; ''Spotty" Campbell's work at quarter and Ben Willard's work.at end, especially when he re covered the ball after Ellington fumbled Snedigar's 50 yard punt. Pat Same at the other end also played a good game especially in making interferences. D. D. McCaskill at center played his usual slashing game besides his beautiful work at the kick- off when, after kicking the ball to the three yard line, he was down under the ball and tackled the runner before he returned the ball an inch. Stevens at guard not only played his opponent to a standstill but he also proved himself to be a find as a place kicker. When it is considered that three days before the game Stevens had never tried a place kick, his work in kicking three out of four goals from touchdown, one of these being within five yards of the side line, and in making one goal from the field, was indeed a very remarkable performance. G. E. McCaskrl at the other guard also performed his work to the complete satisfaction not only of the spectators but also of those more severe critics, the coaches. At tackle Garwood' and Waterman more than made good Stetson's reputation for always having those positions well taken care of. Waterman brought back memories of the mighty Harry Duncan when he would rush, tearing for a gain of from five to fifteen yards. Garwood who has only been out for one week and' had never before played tackle stamped himself as a real tackle by holding Rader. the veteran tackle and captain of Florida better than ever before. In carrying the ball he never once failed to gain and many times went through for from five to eight yards. Those who made the best showing for Florida were Rader at tackle, Earl Taylor at half and Vidal at full back. The play in detail was as follows. Florida won the toss and chose to kick off to ^Stetson defending the east goal. Taylor for Florida, kicked to Stetson's five yard line where the ball was caught by Pounds. Aided by magnificent interference he started back down the field. Dodging through the whole Florida team it looked as if a touchdown was sure, and so it would have been if he had not stumbled in the soft sand at the west goal where he was pulled down from behind by a flying tackle by McMillan on the thirty yard line. On the first play the captain was called and responded with nine yards, Campbell was only good for one-half yard. Snedigar took six through the line for a first down Hendry's five, Pounds' three and Snedigar's three put the ball on Florida's three yard line. Hendry and Pounds both failed to gain. With.three yards to go Snedigar was sent into the line but failed' by two feet to cross the line. This was a magnificent piece of work for Florida. Taylor for Florida punted on first down from behind the goal line to Campbell, who returned to the 28 yard line. Again 'Stetson started on her march toward the last white line. Hendry failed to gain. Snedigar took seventeen.' Garwood four, while Snedigar added a like amount. With third down and goal to gain, Ben Willard was called on. Not only did he cover the necessary three yards but he placed the ball almost directly behind the goal posts. ,Stevens kicked an easy goal. Score, Steston 6, Florida o. Time 11 minutes. D. D. McCaskill's kickoff was received by Ellington on the fifteen yard line and returned three yards. Vidal was good for two; Shands lost four. Tayor r.tinted 35 yards to Pounds, who returned 25 yards. Hendry lost seven. A forward pass, Pounds to Willard, was good for 15. Campbell's onside kick was caught by a Florida back. Taylor punted on the first down. The ball went over Pounds' head and rolled 65 yards to Stetson's 30 yard line. Pounds returned it 10 yards. A Florida man was caught holding but Stetson elected to take Willard's gain of ten yards. Snedigar went over Rader for four yards. Campbell took two, Pounds seven, Snedigar two. Garwood fumbled but Stetson recovered the ball, Waterman makes six yards and Garwood four. Campbell is tackled for a loss. Stetson is offside and is penalized back to Florida's 50 yard line. On the third down with 16 to go Snedigar is called for the only punt which Stetson made. He responded by sending the ball 45 yards from his line to 'the five yard line. The Stetson ends were waiting when Florida fumbled. Willard promptly fell on. the ball. Stetson's ball on Florida's five yard line. Snedigar made three. "Spotty" thought that Pounds should be good for the other two and was not mistaken. Stevens again kicked the goal. ,S'Core 12 to o. With thirty' seconds to play Taylor kicked off tdf Pounds on the ten yard line. The ball was returned 10 yards. Hendry made four yards and time was called for the first half. Second Half. Vidal returned McCackiU's 40 yard kickoff for six yards. Taylor failed to gain, Vidal took five. Taylor punts to Pounds, who returns to center of field.
