The most important game of the
year, so far, comes off Saturday afternoon. Rollins again with a hundred or more ''rooters" will crowd
the Stetson grand stand and with
their loyal, ringing cheers will again
completely outclass the Stetson yelling. Stetson will learn that solo
work on the side line is a mighty little inspiration to a team. It's too
late to arrange a rooters' club now,
but let every Stetson man be present
on the field willing to do his level
best and show by your presence that
you are back of your men.

J. T. Clake Memorial Service.
A service in memory of John T.
Clake will be held in the Stetson Auditorium at the time of the usual vesper
service on Nov. 15th. Mr. Clake had
many friends in DeLand. It is expected that they will be present to do
honor to the memory of this noble citizen. The president of the university
will deliver an address on that occasion.

Easily Shut Up.

that man across the street is wedded

nice for a man to be wedded to something he can shut up once in a while."

"White and Green Lose Game by
One Point.
In the hardest game this season
Stetson suffers defeat at Gainesville
by the close score of 6-5- The toe of
the Gainesville man is all that prevented the honors being even, both
sides having scored a touch down.
Botts who, up to that game, had
kicked every goal attempted, failed to
make good.
Practically speaking the game was a
tie, both teams were equally matched
and no walkover resulted for either
side. Coach Colton was very much
chagrined with the Stetson showing,
and lays the censure, not so much for
losing the first collegiate game, but
for the spirit with which the team went
away, upon the entire student body.
Simply because we have won everything, so far, and by large scores, too
much confidence has been infused and
our expectations were too high. It is
not the proper send off to tell them it
they don't win by so much never to
come back; such talk will ruin any
team.
Debate Postponed.
! That the attendants might not miss
the lecture Saturday night, the S. L. S.
convened at 6:45, three quarters of an
, hour before the schedule time. The
I debate on the subject of Compulsory
Education in Florida, was postponed
| owing to the failure of the negative
1 side to appear. The rest of the pro-
I gram, as planned, was faithfully carried
I out to the satisfaction of the entire
i • ...
' club, and adjourned in sufficient time
to hear Dr. Grant.
Ballad Concert.
For the benefit of the organ fund of
the Episcopal church a ballard concert
will be given Saturday evening in the
auditorium. Admission is 35 and 15
cents.

As he struggles on his way.
Just to make the path seem smoother
For a soul that's wearied, sore;
Just to do some act of kindness,
Though unheard forevermore.
Mass Meeting in Gym.
Over 100 Fellows Present Stirred
by Speeches. Durrance, New
Cheer Leader.
The question of Stetson college
spirit was again strongly assailed in a
big meeting in the gym, Wednesday
noon. For the past two years the
growing listlessness and indolence of
the student body has been marked and
the time has come for everybody to
wake up. Coach Colton started the
affair off witli the stirring assertion
that Stetson athletic enthusiasm had
fallen so that a member of the team,
smothering his pride and disgust, must
summon the student body and beg of
it to support the team. The severe
criticisms flung at the men in the squad
were then discussed, showing not only
their untruthfulness but the entire
ignorance of those who have thus been
talking. "The old members of the
team don't give a rap at what the
rooters or sideline say, the coach
doesn't lose a bit of sleep over these
criticisms,but it's the new men who are
weak. These things cut them and they
are doing their best. If we can't get
the old spirit of three or four years
ago, we might as well quit. In the
three games, this year, how many
students have been present, how much
cheering has gone on? What we must
have, if we win, is that old Stetson
spirit!"
"Uncle Dan" then took the floor.
"I care not for the team we had two
years ago; I care not for the team we
had one year ago or any year ago! I
want the team we have now, and that
is the team I'm behind!" At his motion Durrance was elected cheer leader
and took the floor, making but a short
talk. Wednesday night was set apart
for the first practice, and all who
mean business come out.
A few remarks from the coach, in
regard to the college yells and cheers
and not individual ragging from the
lines, closed the meeting.
Let every Stetson man get behind
this movement and Saturday when
Rollins meets us on the gridiron, let
every man on the team feel and hear
the backing of the entire school.
