Two Exciting and Close
Games at Ormond
Stetson Baseball Record
Continues a Good One
Last Thursday the baseball team
journeyed over to Ormond' to get a
few square meals, to see their old
friends, and incidentally to play a
couple of games of ball. While our
team was defeated in both games it
is nothing to be ashamed of as they
put up an excellent article of baseball.
Stetson was up against such men as
Richie, who pitched for Philadelphia
and finished out the season with Boston; Hinchman, the heavy hitting outfield from Cleveland whose fielding
percentage is 918 and who batted 257;
Murry, the heavy hitter from the
Eastern League.
Garner pitched the first game and
was decidedly the star of the exhibition, giving up only three hits.
Hinchman and Richie both failed to
land a safe one. Stetson had- them
beat 4 to 3 until the last half of the
ninth, when Hinchman. knocked a
slow ball to Calhoun who threw ±0
first; but Jones muffed the ball. Garner stuck a fast one in Richie's back
and he walked, advancing Hinchman
to second. The next man fanned and
then Murry came to the test as a
pinch-hitter; he got one over third
and Galloway made a beautiful fly
home but Campbell let it get past him
and both Richie and Hinchman
scored. Thus the final score was 4
to 5 in favor of Ormond.
The Second Game.
Page pitched the second game and
was defeated 4 to 3. Page allowed
the opponents only four hits and
should have won his game for Stetson landed five safe ones. George
tSelden knocked a beautiful home run
completely over the fence but some
one in the grandstand yelled, "Oh,
Mary! Look at that!" The name of
Mary seemed to frighten George for
he ran by third-base without touching
the sack. He was compelled to go
back to third' and was unable to make
it home again before the ball was
held by the pitcher.

Stetson vs. Cathedral.
Score: Stetson 23; Cathedral 20.
Last Friday, March 4, the Stetson
girls engaged in battle with the Cathedral girls, and found them to be
a team well worth their mettle. The
two teams were almost evenly matched in weight, and as it was known
that Cathedral was a strong team, a
good game was expected. In this no
one was disappointed. From the
time the whistle was blown for the
toss up, the game was an extremely
lively one.
Cathedral's center by her superior
height succeeded in capturing the
ball almost every time in the jump
for it. Their guards played a hard
game, and did some good team work.
The forVards fell down on their
passes to each other, and in the last
half seemed to give up using passes
at all, but shot for the basket, no
matter in what section of the field
they were. They lost many of their
throws for the basket on this ac
count. They also came up missing
in the throwing of fouls. They played a hard, snappy game, and our
girls found it by no means an easy
task to defeat them. The atmosphere
in Orlando must possess some special qualities conducive to the pro
duction of splendid basket ball players.
Our girls played a clean, fighting
game all the way through. Though
Miss Bunch could not succeed in getting the ball in the toss-up, she did
fine work in working it back from
her guards to her forwards, in some-
very effective dribbling. Miss Post,
while guarded by a girl much larger
than herself, played well upon the
line and in making low short passes
to Miss Quarterman. Miss Quarter-
man won the cheers and admiration
of all by her sure, steady shots for
the basket; and her foul throwing
was aknost spectacular in its precision and certainty. The guards
stayed by their forwards, and were
very much in the way of any work
they tried to do. As this is the chief
mission of a guard, they upheld their
positions well.
The game gave promise of ending
with a score much in favor of Stetson, but in the last few moments
Cathedral seemed to make up with
a jerk, and piled up the score in their
favor, until the game ended with
,Stetson 23; Cathedral 20 .
In the second half, Miss Person
was put in as forward instead of Miss
Cooper, and proved herself a good
basket thrower. The Stetson lineup remained unchanged, as it has in
all the games thus far. The game
aroused the liveliest interest, and
more enthusiasm was shown than at
any game thus far. Remember, enthusiastic side lines help make a
stronger team, and that is what Stetson girls want their team to be. Not
only a stronger team, but the strongest.
Cathedral Girls Breakfasted.
Saturday morning at eleven o'clock
the Stetson girls' basket ball team
delightfully entertained the visiting
team from the Cathedral School of
Orlando.
The back parlors of Chaudoin
