Some Happy Doings of the
Hallowe'en Season.

As a matter of fact, most of
the conversation dealt with Hallowe'en occurrences, aud Mr.
Sheddan made some startling
revelations concerning his artistic
tendencies. He takes his subjects
from nature and his animal paintings are sure to win distinction.
When all were inwardly satis^
fled—and even more—the compa
ny retired to the parlors, where
a most enjoyable evening was
spent in drawing contests, corn
cornering and last, but best of
all, a prolonged and spirited game
of muggins.
When the class was dismissed
they all agreed that it had been
by far the most enjoyable session
of the year.
Those present were, Messrs
Mickle, Ed. Mickle, P. Botts,
Hendricks, Walker, Robinson and
Sheddan. Everybody regretted
that Mr Chaffer had to "cut
class" that night, having been
called out of town. .
PREPARATIONS
FOR NEW GAMES
Apparent Dullness, but
Practice Continues.
Dean Smith Entertains.
Did you ever realize the particular advantages of belonging to
either the Mickle family or to the
Calculus class (at least the masculine part of it)? If not, you
would have been thoroughly con
vinced had you seen the crowd
that gathered at Dean Smith's
residence last Saturday evening
at six o'clock.
It must have sent joy to our
dear professor's heart to see the
alacrity and cheerfulness with
which his darling students came
to this irregular meeting of the
class. It most certainly sent joy
to the hearts of the darling students when they were "all sent
to the board at once" and saw
the many good things with which
that board was laden. Those
who were physics students viewed
the "pile of plates" with an in
terest seldom manifested in the
class-room. It was also noticed
by these physics students that
The gaieties of Hallowe'en
played havoc with the second
team last week, and for several
days they were unable to form a
line up. Even the first team
seemed to be affected and possibly
it is for the good of our reputation that we have no game this
week. However, the team is expected to pull together before
the Savannah game on next Tuesday. The second team has an
offer of a game with the Riverside team but it is not known yet
if it will be accepted.
BASKET BALL.
The girls are practicing basket
ball now and have a squad of
about fifteen from which to select
a team. Miss Erwinna Gaulden,
guard of last year's team, is the
only member in the University
this year, so a practically new
team has to be built up. This is
always discouraging. New material never compares well with old
players. But the girls are work-

TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
The Athletic Committee has
called for entries in a tennis tournament— both singles and
doubles. The object of the tournament is to select two tennis

Rosa, Prof, and Mrs. Suhrie, Prof.
Staley, and Mrs. and the Misses
Hunsaker and Martin. The party
gathered at Miss Erhart's house on
Friday evening at 6:30. One of Mr.
Cranor's fine new wagons, drawn by a
pair of spirited steeds, was in waiting
to convey the company to the pavil-

There are good prospects for
games with players from both
Rollins and Florida. Efforts are
also being made to secure games
to be played at the Florida State
fair. Mr. Roy P. Hamlin has
been elected manager of the tennis team. Any one wishing to
enter the tournament should hand
in his name to Prof, Baldwin.
