Young Sound Seekers began as a community outreach program that created opportunities for blind and partially-sighted youth to learn about natural soundscapes and audio field recording. That work laid the foundation for a curriculum that helps students develop a deeper connection to the natural world through sound. Published by the National Park Service Natural Sounds & Night Skies Division, these six printable lesson plans cover essential concepts about natural and cultural soundscapes, offering a ready-made toolkit for educators who may lack the subject expertise to create their own materials. The authors' goal was to develop a curriculum for use by NPS rangers and other outdoor educators, while using universal design principles to maximize accessibility. Created by Dr. Nathan Wolek (Professor of Digital Arts at Stetson University), Eve Payor (Atlantic Center for the Arts), and Edith Stein (Florida School for the Deaf and Blind). Published May 2025.
