John B. Stetson and S. Elizabeth Stetson convey 8 acres of Section 9, Township 17 South, Range 30 East (USGS) near Woodland Boulevard in DeLand to The John B. Stetson University. Additional conveyances in DeLand include: Lot 3, Block 14 (D.D. Rogers' map) and Lot 4, Block 14 (D.D. Rogers' map). Note: The Stetson Union Building (now known as the Carlton Union Building) was ultimately built on this site in 1956-1957 but because of a misplaced comma on page 3 of the Indenture Contract, there was confusion as to what the university was allowed to use the property for. President J. Ollie Edmunds had to go to court to clear the matter up, in what he referred to as: ""the case of the misplaced comma.""
