Description
Handmade longboat canoe, believed to have been built by the Florida Seminole using metal tools, in the late 19th or early 20th century. The canoe was displayed at the Florida Exhibit of the 1933-34 Chicago World's Fair. Earl Brown, former Mayor of DeLand and proprietor of the Hotel Putnam, served as vice president and manager of the Florida Exhibit. He acquired the canoe at the end of the World's Fair and mounted it at the Hotel Putnam, where it was known as 'The Cypress Room Canoe.'
