Symphonic Wind Ensemble

Guest Conductor John De Young graduated from Stetson University in 1952 and presently serves as a member of the Stetson School of Music Board. Mr. De Young was a Florida Band Conductor for 24 years, having conducted the St. Cloud High School Band and the Bartow High School Band. He is past president of the Florida Band Association and Florida Music Educators Association. He adjudicates and serves as a clinician at many FBA events. Mr. De Young is currently the conductor of the Bartow Adult Concert Band. Faculty Soloist Dr. Michael Rickman, Professor of Piano, holds degrees from Mars Hill College and the University of North Texas and has done extensive post-doctoral study with Karen Shaw of Indiana University. He was a winner of the 1978 Theodor Leschetizky International Piano Competition held at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 1990, he was one of two Stetson faculty to receive the first Homer and Dolly Hand Awards for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Rickman's extensive performing career has led him to three prestigious European tours, most recendy in concerts sponsored by the Latvian Philharmonic Society.
